I'm really happy to see Days of Heaven get a Blu-ray release. It is truly a great film that no Blu-ray library is complete without.

I came across this on the Auteurs website the other day and thought everyone here would find it most interesting. Sorry if this has been posted on here before but a quick search did not bring up anything.

Enjoy

cannot wait for Days of Heaven.
amazing film.
Criterion is making some great choices, but god I wish they would announce "Brazil", "La Strada", and "Amarcord"
It's shocking that they haven't released any Fellini yet imo.

Last Year At Marienbad is awful IMO... it's just boring all around... I don't get all the praise this movie got over the years...
Repulsion is ok... Deneuve is stunning ...

I thought Last Year At Marienbad was amazing, an absolutely mesmerizing experience. Be warned that it is nonlinear, doesn't have a plot in the traditional sense, and there is no real "right answer" for what is going on. But I found it intriguing the whole way through, and I couldn't get it off my mind for some time after first viewing it. It is also a visual masterpiece - the set design and camera work and general visual flare is fantastic.

I also learned how to play (and guarantee victory) at the matchstick game played in the movie.

Love both, but Repulsion is one of my favorite films. It's slow at times, but the camerawork and psychology of the film is masterful, and the final closing shot explains the entire film in simplistic, chilling fashion.

Could you explain what you mean in spoiler-text? I watched Repulsion but I don't remember the final shot being particular memorable. I must have missed it or just forgotten.

By clicking on the following spoiler, you agree to re-watch the film within the next week

[Show spoiler] it's a shot of the family photo that was shown various times throughout the film........ but in the final shot of this picture, you can see Carol isn't really in a tight little group with the rest of her family, and she has a very scared/troubled look on her face..... so it suggests that she's had some serious issues of paranoia etc for a long time.......

Ah...
[Show spoiler]The last shot is a slow zoom into a family photo of Carole's family when she was a little girl. She has a horrified, almost accusatory look on her face, and if you notice, she's glaring at her father... who looks exactlylike the guy who she envisions coming in and raping her earlier in the film. So obviously, her father molested her as a child, hence her hatred/fear of men, and is the catalyst that leads her into madness.

Ohhhh man.... I've seen this film probably 10-12 times, and have never made the
[Show spoiler] daddy
connection

Ah...
[Show spoiler]That does make sense. When I saw it, I think I just noticed her off by herself a bit like Beta Man said and didn't think much of it. I mean, she's obviously messed up by the time the film begins - they don't present her as a previously normal person who has a horrifying weekend. She's off from the very start, which leads the viewer to believe she's been like that for a considerable amount of time. But I didn't notice that she was glaring at her father - if true, that certainly does give things a much different spin.

I can't pull it out right now, because all of my films are packed up right now because of some contractors coming to the house in the morning....... but I really must pull this one out and
[Show spoiler] freeze frame on the imaginary rapist, and the father from the photo......
I don't know how I could miss that connection!

on a side note..... I got a good chuckle at the thought of ccfixx, kndy, and Pro-B reading this, and saying "What in the hell did you think it meant "
