Thanks for the heads up on this.

UK buyer here and have wanted to see these two films for so long, but held out on the Criterion hoping for a Blu-ray release.

Been looking for the best price and this is it, so going to give them a trial run, shipping cost seems fairly reasonable.

If they fail me, I shall be coming after you William

Earlier today I received my copy of La Jetee/Sans Soleil from Amazon.... and I have a really stupid question: Was the previous DVD release of the two films considered as one spine # or two?

A quick look here will tell you that...

#386... Sansho The Bailiff
#387... La Jetée / Sans Soleil
#388... The Two Of Us

Therefore, the release of La Jetée / Sans Soleil has been only one spine. Ta-da!

Thanks, ccfixx...for some reason I forgot to do that, I just looked at the main page for the release on their site, and didn't see the number listed.

There's no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people that ask questions.

I must be the only person that actually LIKES the method that DD uses.

I know they aren't the fastest, but they always deliver for me. Barnes and Noble on the other hand tends to be tempting fate with their move towards those non-padded little baggies. Amazon is great when they use a box, not so much when they use a padded mailer. The "form fitted" bubble envelopes that DD uses seem to work pretty well to me. Better than their competitors alternatives anyway...

DD's bubbles don't work for me any better than Amazon's bubbles. (I'm pretty dissatisfied with most online places in the U.S. any more. More and more items arrive dinged up, even when they're shipped in boxes - I've just about given up on B&N. Kino at least seems to get it right... As do Amazon (mostly) and Eureka (just about always) in the U.K., although have had a (very) few of the U.K. ones go missing (and promptly re-shipped).)

How can they be 110% reliable? Do they sometimes send your discs before you order them?

Sorry if it's already been discussed, but I would absolutely be thrilled if we had an announcement for The Passion of Joan of Ar on BD in the future.

Any hints or news at all about this title?

It's getting a UK release in 2013, I presume that a US release is inevitable - it's a matter of when not if.

I just finished Animal Kingdom (awfully good, btw...Revanche fans in particular might want to give it a look) and Sony did something I absolutely loved. It's an Australian film and they included straight English subs in addition to English SDH subs.

It's a very small distinction but imo it really added a lot to the release.

I would love for Criterion to get in the habit of doing the same thing.

So last night I went to a screening of The Seventh Seal. I have to say that was the single most amazing experience I've had in a movie theater. I had actually never seen the film and I'm glad I was able to experience it for the first time at a theater. After the film Max Von Sydow came out for a Q&A. It was pretty great. He talked about Bergman and how the idea for the film had originally came from a theater play Bergman had wrote that was basically just a bunch of monologues. It was very surreal and moving to be there while he spoke about Bergman. It was just a great experience, hope to catch some more films at that theater.

Max Von Sydow Wish I could have been there! Sounds like how I felt when I went to a screening of Shadow of a Doubt and Janet Leigh was there talking about working with Hitchcock and Orson Welles. Very surreal.

Sounds like an incredible event!

Last summer I was fortunate enough to see 2001 and Keir Dullea spoke after the film. It was great to hear him speak about Kubrick and learn he had in fact seen all of his work (his favorite being Paths of Glory). Dullea was very down to earth and easy going.

Wish I could've gone to both of these, too

Sounds wonderful. I'm glad you went to it. As much as it is great to have this film to watch at home; there is nothing like watching it in a theatre on good ole 35mm film.

I think the greatest Retro screening I ever went to was in 2000 at the Academy theatre in Beverly Hills. It was for Robert Altman's 25th of Nashville. Pretty much everyone involved was there for it. Curtis Hanson was in the audience.
