True, but I paid $50 for my Three Colors set and I expect it to be done correctly. I assume everyone else would, too. But I also assume when Criterion paid for the license, they paid for a *correct* master. And I figure since it's not just a Criterion issue but Artificial Eye's as well, the leverage of 2 companies who paid distribution rights for a faulty product would have the leverage to make it right.

At least an announcement acknowledging the error would be appreciated; at least it shows they are acknowledging the error.

Plus, it is nice to hear that Shallow Grave is getting a Criterion spine. Danny Boyle is a great director, and it's good to see one of his best works getting the appreciation it deserves.

I disagree. Other films with framing issues have been fixed. The scan may be ok, just skewed low, which would only require a frame shift. Remember, the entire negative is typically scanned and then frame adjusted for a master.

I also think quality control and film preservation is important to Criterion, so they will push for a fix.

The term pretentious refers to a false sense of importance. Unfortunately, a few Malick's films fall under that flag including Days of Heaven.

I know what pretentious means and I could see how you could find The Tree of Life to be so but not Days of Heaven. It is his least pretentious film, along with Badlands.

I absolutely loved Badlands. Days of Heaven got way too lost in showing pretty pictures.

Days of Heaven tried to turn harvesting wheat into a graceful and almost religious act while pushing boring voice-overs about nothing. That's definitely pretentious.

I've been able to watch Gimme Shelter and House over the last few days and I loved the documentary and the structure of the piece as we're seeing through their eyes in the aftermath of the event. House felt like a live action anime which made it even more batshit crazy that I'd show to my friends if were stoned or drunk on a late night.
