It would be hypocritical if the same individuals were trashing Criterion for mainstream releases while putting things like The Fountain on their wishlists. It can be interesting (though truthfully it rarely is) when the same person holds contradictory positions.

But when different people hold different positions?

True, I'm making a vast assumption that it's the same people complaining about certain releases, yet vote for Badlands and The Fountain. However, this thread often has very few people posting constantly, so I can't help but assume.

Also, even if it isn't the same people, it's still pretty darn funny, because of all the complaining about mainstream films and how Criterion is not giving customers what they want, this poll shows that these mainstream titles are what a lot of people actually want, and therefore Criterion is being very smart by catering to what their customers want, rather than being very stupid by not releasing "better" titles.

Nothing yet I see. Been watching the bonus features on the Tintin Blu-ray for the last 90 minutes or so, I was thinking maybe something would have been said since it's past 2 pm.

It's not the same people. People that want The Fountain thought Hollis Frampton was Peter Frampton.

We can only hope, although I think most of those people post in the Wishlist thread, and keep wanting David Lynch and Wes Anderson.

You could easily expand that to this entire thread as meaningless, like most forum threads on the internet, as the only people who post here have strong opinions.

It's cheaper for one thing. The UK forum seems to think it has a lesser transfer for some reason. also, this might help: http://digital2disc.com/index.php/ne...meless-classic

I wonder if my Shakes the Clown jokes will prove similarly prescient.

I would laugh like hell if it does occur. You were also the one who predicted Anatomy of a Murder with the drunken dog clue long before it came out. You're like the Sybil Trelawney of the Criterion thread!

Heh, the dog cartoon was a fortunate stream of consciousness - my immediate impression was The Thin Man (which certainly wouldn't have sucked).

It is weird what can stick in your head over the years though. That ashtray bit in AoaM is all of like thirty seconds.

Well, I hate to $h*t on your point, but I responded merely out of fun and I don't have a strong opinion regarding it.

No. If Criterion releases it, great. If not, I won't lose any sleep.
