But seriously, you're right - conceptually it holds up so well, and stylistically it's great to look at, even if it is dated 16mm. The production design and camera work is fantastic. Imagine trying to make sure the camera wasn't being reflected in one of the many mirrors...
While watching the supplementary interviews, I paused and stepped through the mirror shots looking for reflections of the camera. If such gaffes exist, I've yet to detect one Dr.

Is it a plot spoiler because his taking his shirt off contributes to the plot, or it was just an impressive body to admire throughout the film?

Has anyone checked out Francois Ozon's 'Water Drops on Burning Rocks'? It's based on a play Fassbinder wrote and stars Ludivine Sagnier. I have the Australian DVD and it's a very slight film but is quite fun and enjoyable.

I don't own any Japanese Blu-Rays. From what I've gather, they're bloody expensive. Any real-life experiences to the contrary?

I watched it a while ago and found it enjoyable as well. After looking him up recently, I found I had seen and liked plenty of his films without knowing he'd been the director.

Just a joke about how he conspicuously takes his shirt off for no reason in a number of scenes.
It's particularly funny because his body really isn't worth showing off.

That's pretty much where I'm at. It's not a must-have but my interest level has definitely increased.

Criterion has released TV programs before, so it's nothing that anyone should feel ashamed of.
What the hell? Everyone here is aware that it was made for TV, and came out in the 1970s, I'm pointing out that it has since been released in theatres, contrary to what you were saying, which is why people are wondering why Criterion has the credits break right in the middle, rather than using one of the theatrical touring cuts to watch the whole thing at once. No one has an issue with Criterion releasing TV programs either. Are you sockpuppeting again for another poster?

Klaus didn't think he was all that impressive, considering
[Show spoiler]he claims most of it's "padding" to make himself look more masculine when we first see Fred at the party.

I love that he's a head shorter than all the women in the film
Speaking of men a head shorter than all the women, I'm now watching Manhattan. Stunning black & white

Even though I've just bought 12 Criterion films on Blu, I'm going to have to make it 13 with Paris, Texas.

I'm fan of Lifeboat - a solid film. It's also one of those "technical exercise" films for Hitchcock, like Rope, where he's trying to work within certain technical parameters, in this case keeping the camera confined to the boat.
I think it's mainly because Hitchcock had to have complete control over the filming. His films were pretty much complete even before filmed. He story-boarded them and knew each shot in the film even before filming began. Filming on a sound stage and/or using rear-projection often made it easier for him to film his vision exactly as he wanted it.

On the other hand, Welles was the exact opposite.

Change of subject, but you didn't update the poll on Friday. I was looking forward to that.

I always laugh when they have "sex symbols" shorter than the women. Davy Jones is another example of all the girls he chased after being taller (5'3" in boots!).

I found Gloria to be completely plastic looking, did anyone else agree? Maya reminded me a bit Paula Prentiss for some odd reason.

Speaking of Welles, we got finally got around to watching the Citizen Kane blu-ray. Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful black and white films I own on blu-ray. It doesn't even need to be qualified by saying it's 70 years old. It really looks stunning.
