To put my opinion in on this, I too only have the Fantoma dvd releases (Blind Beast, Giants & Toys, etc) and find them to be worthy transfers. You can get them fairly cheap, brand new, off of the Amazon Marketplace.

Here is a quick review on a few if interested:

http://www.mondo-digital.com/blindbeast.html

I am/was a very big fan of Fantoma's taste in film (Kenneth Anger, Masumura, Fassbinder, Coffin Joe/José Mojica Marins). Too bad they are not around anymore as they pretty much had my taste down 100%.

Yes, same company http://www.dvdversatil.com.br/30-ano...glauber-rocha/. I have seen the film, but without English Subtitles (the same way I saw Rocha's Claro) and on a bad vhs-like transfer.

I'm eagerly awaiting more Fassbinder Blu-ray upgrades (already damn excited about Querelle getting one not even one month from now). This is actually my release of the year so far.
Masumuras films either hit the mark instantly, like Giants & Toys, or they manage to slowly but steadily grow on me somehow, like Manji. Either way, I'm glad I started watching his films a week ago.

Haha, I think I just saw the file you mean on yt. The quality sure is pretty bad but sometimes that's the only option available to watch a movie. youtube's great for finding films online, sometimes. When I was searching for some Man Ray films like 2 weeks ago I found them on there in an instant.
Yeah that Youtube link is what I was takling about.

Querelle on blu-ray is fantastic. Hopefully Lili Marleen gets a Criterion release soon.

Anyone know for sure whether or not a Barnes & Noble sale is happening in July?

I wish more people would request at least one Douglas Sirk film. They keep cranking out Kurosawa, Bergman and Godard but not one Sirk film has been released yet. I want Written on the Wind and Imitation of Life on blu.

They haven't cranked out a Godard in a while.

For that matter, another Truffaut would be nice.

More Godard and Truffaut would be great. So would more Kurosawa and Bergman. But not before we get at least one Sirk. I'm willing to wait for the others.

So far we have 400 Blows and The Last Metro.

The first is a no-brainer. The Last Metro is a good film but frankly it's no Jules and Jim.

There's several films I would've preferred (Day for Night, Small Change, The Bride Wore Black, Another Woman, Mississippi Mermaid, Wild Child, etc) to The Last Metro.

I would love for Criterion to issue Written on the Wind and All That Heaven Allows as blu upgrades... I could kind of see Universal doing a Digibook Imitation of Life release... been hoping all year.

They won't. They just did a new reissue of the 1930s version packaged with the 1950s version with a new 100th anniversary slipcover slapped on it, and threw in a free digital copy of the 1950s version. I'm guilty of buying said release because I really love Imitation of Life.

You would have to spend three or four hours explaining to her what "inner monologue" mean's first!

Agreed on both counts. Criterion's got rights for three Sirks: All That Heaven Allows, Magnificent Obsession, and Written on the Wind. Each of those is on my I really want Criterion to upgrade these list, but I've got to assume they're waiting on Universal in terms of these: Imitation of Life for example was just re-issued by Universal earlier this year as part of the 100th annum on DVD, so that's not boding well for blu upgrades for any of these Sirks.

And Truffaut...Jules et Jim (the top French New Wave film, IMO) is loooong overdue for an upgrade, as is Tirez sur le Pianiste. TF1 is releasing a blu of Jules et Jim in France shortly, so maybe a Criterion edition could be on the way? We know The Soft Skin should be coming any month now. Two English Girls is streaming on Hulu+. The Bride Wore Black is dying for just a decent home-video release...

EDIT:
[Show spoiler]Warner's DOES NOT control The Bride Wore Black's US rights...

Oooh, it is. Thanks. Post edited to reflect.

Got it mixed with Blow Up (another OOP title from a favorite director I had to import on DVD due to it being vastly cheaper)
