I got Playtime already as well, no debate for me like what happen with The Third Man and no regrets years later

Was there really a rumor about Pierre Etaix?

StudioCanal are still credited at the start of many Criterions that are in-print. So presumably they own the rights to these films as well? How do you tell which ones Criterion will lose and which they won't?

A few months ago someone mentioned there would be a collection of Pierre Etaix films coming to Criterion, most likely in the Eclipse form. I am just guessing here but if it was mentioned months ago and the release window was 2012 then I think it is safe to say it might be coming in October or November. Add to that guess the rest of the rumored Czech New Wave Eclipses from which I think we could get another one this year and it is possible. Pierre Etaix for October, Czech New Wave for November .

Actually it is. I meant Hidden Fortress was more popular with Lucas because he lifted story elements for Star Wars from it.

If you already own the barebones one then it probably would be better to wait and see when Criterion will upgrade the title, there's no guarantees as to when they will upgrade it but I think it's only a matter of time before they do.

Yeah, I kind of had "Head" in the back of my mind when I made the original post.

Do you know what "Head" and "The Longest Yard" (1974) have in common?

Answer:
[Show spoiler]Ray Nitschke ... hah!

Pierre Etaix Eclipse would be something I would buy if they cared to release it

So my haul from the B2G1F/50% off crossover sale should be arriving in the mail anytime between tomorrow and Monday. It consists of:

Night of the Hunter
Blow Out
Beauty and the Beast
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (free)

That's most likely it for me until the November sale (or the inevitable Criterion 100,000 likes sale), unless a really good coupon or deal comes out.

On a side, non sale related topic: Does anyone know the address of where the Criterion facilities are located in NYC? And whether or not they would allow visitation? I live in the state, so one of these times I'm on break it would be cool to go down to the city and check it out. I always thought it would be cool to talk to the people responsible for and maybe get a closer look at the process in which some of our favorite movies are restored.

Isn't Studio Canal just as bad, if not worse, than Criterion for sitting on titles?

Casque d'Or seems to still be in print as far as the DVD is concerned, and is on their Hulu channel. Forbidden Games, however, is OOP.

I feel pretty ambivalent about this announcement. On the one hand, if it implies that we'll get more Tati on blu faster, OK. But my disappointment with SC's Ran still lingers.

Has anyone watched other SC blus enough to comment? Is this going to be good or just OK?
