Maybe he's too mainstream and a US director, but I'm interested what title, if any, they have by Howard Hawks.

Love the Rashomon cover. Finally will get to see the new restoration!!

Week End alone made my day ! Beautiful boxart but lacking a bit on the supplement side. Heaven's Gate cover is pretty uninspiring, though.

" Kris Kristofferson brings his weathered sensuality to the role of a Harvard graduate who has relocated all the way to Wyoming as a federal marshal;..."

Boy that Three Reasons trailer is just going to write itself on this one.

If a Criterion Thief is released I'd prefer that since the DVD image is a laserdisc port, but I do hope that if The Insider makes it to blu ray it gets treated better then some of the other recent Disney live action releases (Color of Money looking really bad for example).

I like Heaven's Gate flaws and all, but man that write up is laughable.

I will admit I find it peculiar that the site pretentiously slammed Kindergarten Cop, a movie that was generally well-liked even if it wasn't an artistic masterpiece or anything, and then release Heaven's Gate, the Gigli of the 1980s. What's next, Howard The Duck? Glitter?

I've not seen Heaven's Gate but by all accounts it flopped at the box office and the reviews are not so great. I need to watch this before I can further comment I suppose.

Probably

So... it seems that's it. We ended up with:

- Rashomon (Upgrade)
- Week End (New)
- Trilogy of Life (New)
- Heaven's Gate (New)
- Eclipse Series 37: When Horror Came to Shochiku (New)

I am completely in for the Godard, the Pasolini and the Eclipse. The Kurosawa looks interesting enough and I have not seen it so I will probably get it down the road. The Cimino release is quite disappointing, though. One would think the extras on this one were the most important part but they look quite simplistic to me. No making-of documentary, no theatrical cut, no commentary. I wasn't planning on getting it anyway but it seems like a bad move.

They posted the line up on their website, it also includes some Japanese cult monster movies like Goke, X from Outer Space, Genocide and the Living Skeleton
Ive heard a lot of good things about Rashomon, but Im not into Samurai stories...might rent that one
Looks like another saving money month for me with Criterion

Actually in a way you could say it was Criterion making fun of their own image. Afterall there's a lot of people out there (especially now with the internet) that get told what to watch instead of exploring cinematic possibilities on their own. I bet if Kindergarten Cop was made a member of the Criterion Collection you'd probably hear some snobs that would otherwise deride all of a sudden talk about it's hidden meanings and how it's one of the landmarks of late 20th century cinema.

I will say this though, Heaven's Gate is a hugely flawed film with a barely there script and performances, but it's cinematography by Vilmos Zsigmond is among the best of it's era, and for that reason alone it deserves to be on blu ray. Criterion probably stepped up to the plate beacause no one else would.

Heaven's Gate is listed as being two blu-ray discs. I would think the extras listed must be substantial enough to warrant two discs, right?
