If a Criterion Thief is released I'd prefer that since the DVD image is a laserdisc port, but I do hope that if The Insider makes it to blu ray it gets treated better then some of the other recent Disney live action releases (Color of Money looking really bad for example).

I like Heaven's Gate flaws and all, but man that write up is laughable.

I will admit I find it peculiar that the site pretentiously slammed Kindergarten Cop, a movie that was generally well-liked even if it wasn't an artistic masterpiece or anything, and then release Heaven's Gate, the Gigli of the 1980s. What's next, Howard The Duck? Glitter?

Probably
![]() So... it seems that's it. We ended up with: - Rashomon (Upgrade) - Week End (New) - Trilogy of Life (New) - Heaven's Gate (New) - Eclipse Series 37: When Horror Came to Shochiku (New) I am completely in for the Godard, the Pasolini and the Eclipse. The Kurosawa looks interesting enough and I have not seen it so I will probably get it down the road. The Cimino release is quite disappointing, though. One would think the extras on this one were the most important part but they look quite simplistic to me. No making-of documentary, no theatrical cut, no commentary. I wasn't planning on getting it anyway but it seems like a bad move. |

I will say this though, Heaven's Gate is a hugely flawed film with a barely there script and performances, but it's cinematography by Vilmos Zsigmond is among the best of it's era, and for that reason alone it deserves to be on blu ray. Criterion probably stepped up to the plate beacause no one else would. |
