To the extent there are haters at all I would say they (sometimes we) hate mostly on fanboys (and no, that's not directed at you). It hasn't (yet) gotten to the point where people are lobbying Criterion to do a Batman retrospective but it gets close.

As for Nolan and Fincher themselves, I like a lot of their stuff - some of it quite a bit. But I also think it's all pretty standard Hollywood fare (aside from being good, of course) and I also think it's more alike than not. Memento/Fight Club, Dragon Tattoo/Insomnia, The Prestige/The Social Network...are these indistinguishable? No. But are there any real differences between them? Eh.

If one defines extraordinary to include making better mass-market Hollywood movies then most of the other people making mass-market Hollywood movies then sure, one could consider them extraordinary.

But aside from that...

Fanboys/fangirls of any sorts are annoying when they take things to the extreme. I count myself as extreme at times too btw.

A guy I used to work with was always such a jackanape towards me because I was m'eh to Inception. He would react as if I slaughtered his entire family and deficated on their corpses and kept trying to push me to like the film. It ultimately made me hate the film, due to such behaviour from him.

I learned to stop caring about what people thought of my film tastes long ago. I mean, my favourite film is the Monkees' film.

I like some stupid crap, and I like a lot of good quality stuff. I just find that some people get far too wrapped up in their personal tastes, that they forget others might not share them. I admit I snark on preferences at times, but I'm not serious about it.

People take this forum too serious sometimes.

And yes, I will be buying Dark Shadows in a few weeks because it was light fluffy fun. Alice Cooper was awesome. Apologies to P@t in advance.

The Game is already on its way from Amazon for me. Was this some special release date for Amazon or did they make a mistake and ship it a week early? Not that I'm complaining or anything. Just thought it was interesting that their release date is a week earlier than what shows on Criterion's own website.

No, the whole omg, Peter is soooo pretty is extreme. Next calls himself Nez. He's an interesting guy if you read his Facebook. Last update included mentionings of skunks with wife beaters and tattooed and pierced deer trashing his lawn.

Also, the arguments I get into with others on this forum about the legitimacy of their music, since so many people still believe mike never wore his own hat or any of them played their own instruments despite everything that has been said to the contrary.

I better stop now before I get too extreme in my Monkees fangirlism.

Forgot to address this point. I do agree, that sometimes people get a but snobby about certain titles. I poke fun too, but I'm not serious about it as I like some of the "Facebook stuff" too, as you can see by my 2012 purchases.

(jackanapes) whippersnapper: someone who is unimportant but cheeky and presumptuous.

Personally, I would've used jejune in that situation because it's more fitting. Plus, you get bonus points if you say it out loud and someone doesn't know what it means.

Amazing line-up for December. I'll probably end up buying all of them.
Brazil will definitely replace my current Universal Blu-ray. Luckily I haven't bought the germand release of Koyaanisqatsi yet, so I won't have to double dip on that one. Following of course is also definitely a very nice surprise. I've never watched this film, but I always wanted to. Just recently when I was watching the making of Memento, where Nolan is also talking about his debut, it made me want to see this film so badly.

I think 2012 has been a terrific year for the collection. So many fantastic upgrades and new additions. There were so many great films this year, I couldn't even follow up with buying them. But that's what the B&N sales are for...

Years back, I saw three films that I thought were exceptional. I have always wanted these on Blu ray, once the format took off, and never picked them up on DVD.

The first one has finally been announced! Christopher Nolan's Following.

Now, if only someone would release Aranofsky's Pi and Frankenheimer's Seconds, I would be thrilled!

I didn't see what the 2nd one was, but the first one is region locked. I don't have a region free player. I will not be investing in one either. I'm sure they'll release one some day. In the meantime, I have enough to keep me occupied. I can't even watch the movies I buy because I have so many unwatched films that I'm trying to get through. So...I'll wait.
