@ParticleDan: Definitely a sweet deal! I wasn't going to bother because their shipping to Canada used to be flat rate $20, plus $X per title. But just decided to randomly take a look and they've lowered the flat rate to $7.95, plus $2.95 per title!! When did this happen?? Ahhhhhh, must buy now!

Damn you Criterion!!!

Don't know if it impacts the non-yanqui population out there, but TCM is having a one-day sale I think the code is Cyber25 and you can get Umberto D for less than 15 bucks before shipping.

Been regularly picking up Criterions during the B&N sales, so was able to limit myself to (mostly) more recent releases:

Charade [upgrade of my Criterion DVD]
Children of Paradise [ditto - and one of my favorite films of all time]
Metropolitan [watched Last Days of Disco the other night & want more Stillman]
Quadrophenia [saw it theatrically ages ago]
Weekend [one of the most insightful & incisive indie dramas I've seen recently]

Picked up The Game, Eating Raoul and Quadrophenia. Was just about to use $5 Best Buy Reward Zone coupons to get them down to under $20 when this email came in. Great timing on the Flash Sale, Criterion!!

So many titles...I think I may go with:

Close-Up
Playtime
The Battle of Algiers
The Music Room

Thoughts? I also wanted Quadrophenia, The Game, and Eating Raoul, but will most likely have to wait till November :<

A few locals stores in my area did too. But you're right - Eating Raoul is available too. I opted for The Game and Les Visiteurs du Soir, using 2 $10 GCs.

Not trying to be "that guy" but you should definitely wait on DVDs, especially since we never know what's going to be upgraded from the older catalog. Also, Spartacus is highly rumored to be an upgrade soon.

Oh, okay. Thanks for your input!

I just regret not picking up a few of the DVD Criterions back when, i.e. Sid & Nancy and The Unbearable Lightness of Being. I hope they are re-released

Is Eating Raoul worth a blind buy for $20?

No problem! Just don't like when people purchase the DVD of film they want, then suddenly the blu-ray is announced. It's happened to me a couple of times

Also, I found out Playtime was not scanned from 70mm but from 35mm. Is there a blu-ray that will do 70mm? Because as much as I love Criterion, seeing a version sourced from 70mm would look much better.

Playtime looks glorious, no matter what the source. Buy with confidence.

Love these flash sales. I made off with:

The Game
The Royal Tenenbaums

Fish Tank (this is the only blind buy of the bunch, took a flyer on it as a Michael Fassbender fan. Anyone who's seen it, is it a good one?)

It doesn't. Sorry. I would have ordered a lot more titles if it did.

I'm a big Andrea Arnold fan so I'd say yes. However, there will be some people who don't like the way the movie turns out.

Ah, good to know, thanks. Hopefully I won't be one of those people.

Did they change the shipping to Canada? The shipping price was reasonable enough to actually take advantage of this sale.
