Reviewers get discs early so they can review them in advance of the release date and therefore boost the DVD/Blu-Ray's sales.

They generally get them for free, too. But they don't get the entire package - just the disc. At least, as far as I know.

Received a press note. Incredibly sad news!

Yeah, I just read that on FaceBook:

Quote:
Sad news: Iconoclastic filmmaker Koji Wakamatsu passed away today. Known for rebel yells like GO GO SECOND TIME VIRGIN and ECSTASY OF THE ANGELS, he also served as line producer on Oshima’s IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES.
Does that mean that we'll see a sale on his movies?

Yes? I know in the past, studios have done sales on movies of certain people who have died.

Yeah, well, maybe it's just me but I don't think the timing (at least) of your question is quite right.

I'm sure I'm not the only one curious.

On a side note, I don't think I can narrow my BN 50% off sale list down any further:

[Show spoiler]1. 8 1/2
2. America: Lost And Found: The BBS Story
3. Belle De Jour
4. Broadcast News
5. Diabolique
6. Forgiveness Of Blood
7. Harold And Maude
8. Hunger
9. Ice Storm (DVD)
10. Kiss Me, Deadly
11. M
12. Pale Flower
13. Paris, Texas
14. Repulsion
15. Rosemary's Baby
16. Seventh Seal
17. Shock Corridor
18. Stranger Than Paradise (DVD)
19. Sunday Bloody Sunday
20. Three Colors Trilogy
21. Videodrome
22. Vivre Sa Vie
23. Wages Of Fear
24. Weekend

I guess I could remove Pale Flower, but I don't know. It sounds interesting and it has a cool cover lol

As much as I'd like to see it released on blu...I own the DVD boxset and it wouldn't look much better on blu. The quality is decent...but not great.

Buy the DVD boxset.

Agreed...but I think it came from a better source than Berlin Alexanderplatz.

Pale Flower is one of the best IMO. One of those that immediately became a favorite of mine. Again, I don't know about the BBS set as a blind-buy (can't remember if you've seen em).... I personally was disappointed by the set.

I guess I could save $50+ instead of removing Pale Flower and thus still save $30 instead.

Well, the guy was selling TTM for 80 (because it was opened, and offered the digipak to throw in), TMWFTE was 70 and PLF for 35

I originally wanted to do TMWFTE and PLF for 100$, which he accepted, but I decided to push my luck with TTM and offered 50-60 for it to bring the total to 160$. So if you want to average that out, it's $53.33 per BD
