Thumbs up

I have the Blu of M - excellent picture, picture quality and extras. These posts gave me an idea of Criterion horror movies to watch

It's a DVD, but Kwaidan.

Although I think there might have been an issue with Criterion's verions and the MoC one was better.

Oh I wish for a blu of it ...

Let me know when you plan on kicking the bucket. I want to clear some time for the yard sale.

I believe these were sent out of their NY office. No UPC stickers either. With the exception of the cracking noise, all cases are in pristine condition.

Speaking of House, if anyone lives in the Charlotte area, the Back Alley Film Series is showing it in 35mm tonight. I would go if I didn't have a two-month-old son to watch.

I just watched Being John Malkovich and Last Days Of Disco and I thought the PQ was great.

They were pretty good movies, too. Very different from what I'm used to, but good nonetheless

So I read over on Criterion Cast that during the Q&A some mention was made of Fantastic Mr. Fox, can anyone elaborate on this?

They had some prizes to giveaway and, when it came to the Royal Tenenbaums Blu, one of the questions was (as far as I can remember) 'For what other film did Wes receive an Oscar nomination?'

Last Days does look good, but honestly the DVD looked so good I think my expectations might have been a bit too high.

With Eraserhead on Criterion's Hulu, is it possible Lynch's masterpiece will receive a criterion blu treatment?

I think Disco could look better with a new transfer (I'm pretty sure the DVD used the same transfer), but the Blu-ray is by no means bad.

I just watched Metropolitan on Amazon's streaming service. The picture quality was lacking, but it was good enough, and I liked the film quite a bit. The only Stillman I have yet to see now is Barcelona.

I wonder if this increases the possibility of a blu upgrade...
That's amazing for such a cheap film that was virtually lost until the 90s.

Can anyone recommend me some experimental/avant-garde (never sure what term to use) films that are available on Blu-Ray? I've watched quite a few online over the past few days (such as Maya Deren's Meshes of the Afternoon, Michael Snow's Wavelength and Peter Tscherkassky's Outer Space) and have enjoyed them and I'm looking into getting Jonas Mekas' Walden as well. Criterion have released sets of Frampton and Brakhage (and Painleve on DVD), would anyone here recommend them?

Right now this is only anecdotal, but I've noticed something about a few dual-disc Criterion DVDs I've borrowed from the library: Disc One, the movie, can be scratched so badly it's amazing it still plays, but Disc Two, the supplements, is relatively unscratched. Perhaps even Criterion fans would prefer "barebones" releases.

I bought a brand new copy of Pierrot Le Fou on Blu-Rays For Everyone last night. It was on sale for $32.99 and after shipping ~$35. It looks like it's back up at $59.99.

I e-mailed the guy about if we'll ever see a sale on The Man Who Fell To Earth or The Third Man because they both are priced at $10,560!

This was his response:

Yes I recommend them. If you have a region free player, there is a region free PAL dvd set of Mekas films coming out next month (assuming you want them all instead of spending alot of money on just Walden): http://www.amazon.fr/Coffret-jonas-m...5&sr=8-1-spell

Also, if interested in watching more films online, may I recommend Bruce Conner and Paul Sharits.

Thanks. I think the Mekas set is being released in the US as well (not that it would matter as I'm in the UK) but I'm waiting on a quote to see how much it would be to get Walden on Blu-Ray. I'll get the DVD set if its unrealistic.

EDIT: €240...think I might pass on that...

Finally got a response from Jon Mulvaney regarding my too-dark-to-read cover on The Game. He's mailing me a new, presumably corrected, cover wrap. Criterion rocks!
