Oh, then I'm wrong. I have never seen the hard case for it (have never seen hard cases for Marienbad or Metro either)

I don't own any Criterion releases yet. Thinking of getting one, but would be nice if they included a dvd as well considering their price structure. Anyone agree? I mean, what's it going to cost them overall, a few cents more to include a disc? I don't mind paying extra for a movie I like, but it would nice to see outfits such as Criterion do a little more for the money they charge.

What good would that be, though?

People with dvd players in their cars could let their kids watch The Double Life of Veronique in the back seat.

I think you confused the Criterion thread for the Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy thread.

What Criterion offers is premium transfers and great special features along with insightful booklets. Plus, if you know how to look, you can get Criterions for less than $15.

Yeah, actually I remember him saying in an interview that he was never a big fan of Marty. I wonder if it had anything to do with it sharing his name I actually love Marty! That is what Criterion should be thinking about releasing a blu-ray of. And they should throw in the Rod Steiger TV version too.

I personally don't think that it is necessary.

Criterion is a company known for remastering films to the best quality available, so by including the DVD, it really wouldn't be living up to it's name.

I think The Double Life of Veronique is too dark for kids to watch in the back seat.

They should watch In the Realm of the Senses instead. At least it's cheery.

Just looking at the screen caps of Koyaanisqatsi on DvdBeaver, wish Criterion would have included both the 1.33:1 and widescreen versions for the premium price of the box set.

thanks for the replies
The replacement case is available to buy at criterion.com for $5.

2) Mystery Train - Great Ride to Memphis via Blu Ray
3) Night on Earth - Roberto Benigni is damn hilarious! Awaiting Blu Ray after watching in in Hulu plus.
4) Stranger than Paradise - Love John Lurie's style similar to Down by Law. Awaiting Blu Ray after watching in in Hulu plus.

Ghost Dog is pretty cool and has an explicit reference to Seijun Suzuki's Branded to Kill.
Wonderful performance by Forest Whitaker.
I haven't seen it for years, but I'd probably get it on blu-ray.
I've always been a fan of Dead Man, but I've never felt the need to own it.

Just never thought they were worth the money. Kind of reminds me of Benz or BMW in a way. I take that back, there is one movie I would like and will probably get anyway.

Both! Just because some films are unwatched doesn't mean they aren't intended to be watched eventually ... not by any stretch. I find myself buying films I find interesting faster than I can watch them. I guess 50% off sales will do that. I'm anxious to see each and every film in my collection.

If there is one studio that is worth the money is Criterion: Excellent and wide selection of films from all around the world + top-notch transfers and great sound + fantastic and insightful bonus material + classy packaging and high quality booklets + B&N and Amazon sales from time to time= Best studio ever!!

Yeah, I guess it's going to take me a little time to swallow it, but then again, if I love a movie and they make the effort to put it into HD, then how could I complain about that.

I agree, it is a pity - in my opinion open matte presentation suits the compositions better, but in saying that it will fill the screen better in widescreen. Having both would have been a more complete set, or even 1.66:1 would have been nice. Oh well, still can't wait till it arrives!!

Agreed. They really should do dual releases like Eureka and BFI are doing ... Blu-ray and DVD, for less than $39.99.

Does anyone besides Beta Man own all the Criterion releases? If so, has anyone seen all of them?

What are your favorites and what are your least favorites?
