Yeah, that was poorly worded. My point was whether it will look the same as the remake. The 39 Steps was not very good IMO, so that was my train of thought. Could be another source problem, which seems not the case with the remake from Universal.

Since the relationship between Lynch and Criterion seems to be on the up and up though, it would be great to see them tackle Lost Highway, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, and Wild at Heart. None of these have had great release history, and the first two in particular have comparatively mediocre releases.
I've been dreaming about Lynch on Criterion BD for a good while now. Mullholland would be a nice score and an improvement over the bare-bones R1 DVD.

Wild at Heart and Lost Highway don't seem out of the question either since they are owned by MGM/Fox and Universal respectively.

Not sure about FWWM as much as I'd love to see a stacked-with-extras version of it. Isn't that one owned by WB?

Although I don't see it happening, I would love a Criterion of Death Sentence or One Hour Photo.

Both are great films.

I really can't understand why Silent Running isn't out yet in Region 1. It's a 1970s sci-fi classic, one of a number of low-to-modest budget films from that period about future dystopias or a decaying/dying earth. Films like Soylent Green, The Omega Man, Planet of the Apes, The Andromeda Strain, A Boy and His Dog, etc. Along with others like Solaris and 2001, these films were thought provoking and unafraid to pose questions for which there were no easy answers.

Because Universal is supremely awful, don't you think they'd put out domestic editions of Touch of Evil or Double Indemnity for their 100th anniversary promotion?

Even if it's not put out by Criterion, I would still like to see them on Blu-ray in the United States.

For example, they waste a lot of time and money re-releasing the same movies. Yes, I understand that contracts end and what not, but there are so many great movies that are not available on Blu-ray yet that should really get the treatment.

Hell, some movies haven't even been released on DVD yet.

All this talk of Thin Blue line makes me hope for Errol Morris in the collection. Also some Verhoeven (at first I thought I was reading 'The Fourth Man')

Anyway, anybody have any favorite Criterion essays and or critics who have written for CC?

I thought the rumor was the MGM Morris films (Gates Of Heaven, Vernon Florida, The Thin Blue Line). That release would be awesome, but I'm also pulling to eventually get Mr. Death as well.

Finally got my Qatsi trilogy box set yesterday. Watched Koyaanisqatsi last night; my third time viewing, but the Blu-Ray is pretty damn stunning. I could definitely see more detail in the film, making an experience that's already beautiful and sobering even moreso. This might become my new favorite Criterion release of all time.

Also grabbed Following. Last time I tried to watch it, I found it kinda dull, but will give it another shot (maybe tonight) to see if I'll like it better this time around.

Interesting. If the extras and the transfer are the same, then I've really got no reason to get it, since I have the MoC steelbook (unless I want a copy that I can play on other BD players, not just the Oppo).

See I wouldn't know this because I live in Australia I figured it was Criterion's standard packaging to have slipcovers after being treated with the Yojimbo/Sanjuro bundle collection, Seven Samurai & now Godzilla
I have a region free DVD/bluray player

Cant wait to see Koyaanisqatsi in HD. It was pretty mind blowing when I first watched it as a budding cinephile. Have you seen the other two yet?

I've got Following sitting unwatched on my shelf too. Im waiting for a day when my schedule is tight so i can squeeze this one in. But yeah, you gotta cut the film some slack because it's ultra Low budget. I think $5000 was the number.
