ARGGHHHH.

Trying to get The Great Dictator in the Fry's B1G1 50% sale and it's the only one in my cart listed as IN STORE ONLY.

The Organizer
Rosemary's Baby
The Killing
39 Steps
Anatomy of a Murder

all work fine! No Frys in my area too! I need one more eligible title...

Never heard Criterion was rumored to release them. This edition never came out as slated though.

I still have my OOP DVDs.

Does anyone else here think Fallen Angels is better than Chungking Express? Of the two, Criterion picked the wrong film to add to their catalog.

I keep wanting to pick up Chungking Express partially because its OOP, but the trailer does absolutely nothing for me.

I found it intermittently boring but at least the leads are really attractive (one of them is also in Fallen Angels, its pseudo-sequel).

DING! DING! DING!

Chungking is fair enough, but Fallen is much better.

I'm not so sure about CC making the wrong choice though.

This is why, after revisiting Gillo Pontecorvo's The Battle of Algiers on Thursday night and revisiting Federico Fellini's 8 1/2 last night, I'm planning to watch all four of the Bourne films back to back today.
Finished my run with the training group this morning, and it's supposed to get colder outside through the day, so no reservations about relaxing in my man cave to revisit four awesome action flicks.

(Refusing to admit that nonstop intensity of The Battle of Algiers is not far removed from a Bourne film)
Definitely a good strategy.
I don't always do this, but there are definitely times when I've watched a "heavy" film and I want to follow it with something that is the opposite.
Occasionally though, there are times when one strong film really puts you in the mood for another one...

That's a tough one but I think I like the two Wong Kar Wai Kinos more than the two Criterions.

I've got to disagree, I like chasing down a mindless popcorn flick with an art house, "heavy" film. However, the concept of a well balanced movie diet is a good one. For every great or "nutritious" film, you've gotta see one trashy & fun flick (hopefully with some artistic merit). But then again few people watch as many films as I do...so everybody should stick with the nutritious films

Whether it's been in this thread or some other, some have expressed a wish for a Criterion Blu-ray release of Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus. I thought of that this morning while reading The Man Who Helped Unchain 'Django,' a story about Reginald Hudlin, one of Django Unchained's producers -- an excerpt from the WSJ's Speakeasy blog:
So, it was little surprise that [Quentin] Tarantino picked Hudlin’s brain more than a decade ago about how to make a movie about American slavery. “We were having a long conversation about slave movies and I stated my opinion that most of them don’t work because they’re more focused on victimology,” said Hudlin in a phone interview with The Wall Street Journal. “I wanted to see people who fought back; the equivalent of Spartacus in an Antebellum context.”
All the movies in the Stanely Kubrick Limited Collection should be re-mastered with a 4K scan, but if the work were to be prioritized by me, Spartacus would be near the bottom of the list.

In other news, I bought On the Waterfront and Ministry of Fear from Criterion's store, but will have to wait until March, when Ministry of Fear releases, to get them, because I chose free shipping. The cost will be almost $60, but didn't want to wait for a possible B&N sale. I like to go into the store and find an undamaged copy, but there is the risk that they won't have what I want in stock -- was lucky late last year when they had everything I wanted in-store. Haha, now I'll have about 120 of the 500 points needed for a $50 gift certificate. It may take several years to get 500.

If there is a B&N sale, I'll go and at least look for Badlands.

I just watched Soderbergh's Schizopolis for the first time.

The thoughts that spring to mind are measured praise indicating pleasure while masking a touch of confusion. Backed up with three specific scenes that best capture what I liked without pedestrian exclamations of loving the film. Insert obligatory references to deconstruction, absurdism, duality, and something else to make me sound educated, but using self-deprecatory tone to throw off criticism of my own limited critical facilities. Point out the value of toilet seaties and Purell in public restrooms. Make tossed-off reference to Charlie Kaufman and David Lynch, ignoring that just yesterday I confessed to knowing little of Lynch's work. Delete that Lynch reference and substitute something else. Delete that sentence too... and this one. My spy has a mole.

In conclusion, jigsaw tourniquet glued to aberrational mint tulip in Cuyahoga.

Eagerly awaiting for "Yu Tu Mama Tambien" is proving to be aggravating, especially since it seems it won't be touched until Cuaron finishes "Gravity", which is delayed again.

Has anyone that is region-free purchased the UK disc and can state if it is worth a purchase? It just dropped in price and with shipping is about $12 to import. The PQ reviews are mixed and the extras lacking (plus the cover art is hideous), so those are certainly questionable attributes about the purchase.

I agree. This movie is one of my favorites by Cuaron. Actually Children of Men is my favorite movie of all time.

Cuaron is an amazing filmmaker, one who's films I've taken a lot from. I especially love a forgotten film of his: "Great Expectations". The beauty and sensuality of this film is marred by a poor non-anamorphic release from Fox screaming for a re-release.
