I'm basically admitting to the forum that I'm a big dumb animal (although I'm sure that most already figured that), because I've owned Brian Eno's Apollo: Atmospheres And Soundtracks on CD for years, but never put two and two together to realize that it was the score for the Criterion film.

"An Ending (Ascent)" for the win.
I think you'll deem it the most re watchable documentary ever once you see it. Definitely one of those "deathbed movies" as I can't think of anything more fulfilling to watch on one's last days.

Except when they issue films in flimsy, paper boxes.

Really? This is my first and only Criterion film for Blu-ray so I'm clueless. They have Blu-ray films in paper boxes? Which films so I can avoid them.

There are a few (Last Year at Marienbad, The 400 Blows, etc.) that were released in flimsy cardboard cases, as thought they were mere pizza slices instead of monumental movies. Criterion corrected this to an extent by selling proper plastic cases for these movies at a low price on their website.

I have Last Year at Marienbad in a sturdy plastic case now, so all is right in the world.

Thanks. I wanted to see this months ago and had no idea it was just released in the UK.

Gonna rent this from Netflix on Blu-ray. I was thinking about it months ago but forgot. Thanks for the reminder!

Did they have one for 400 blows?

Are you talking about the films released in DigiPacks with the Slipcover (i.e. The 400 Blows, The Man Who Fell To Earth, El Norte, etc.) or the DigiPacks with the Slipbox (i.e. Battle Of Algiers, On The Waterfront, Sweet Smell Of Success)?

I'm glad you could enjoy it, but I didn't find it funny. At least we can both agree that "The Kid" should be released soon.

Well, I'm not referring to those. I'm referencing Seven Samurai, Godzilla, Breathless, Three Colors, etc... All the flimsy paper packages.

Not sure if anyone caught this on Criterion's Twitter today, but they've mentioned a few Chaplin films are now available in the iTunes Store.

If you click on the link within the tweet to the iTunes Store, in addition to the already released Chaplin films (Gold Rush, Modern Times, Great Dictator & Monsieur Verdoux) you'll see City Lights, The Kid, The Circus, Limelight and A Woman Of Paris - all with the Criterion C logo in the upper left hand corner of each cover art.

iTunes - The Charlie Chaplin Collection
[Show spoiler]

Blu-Ray editions soon?

I saw this on FaceBook. I really hope Criterion releases the other ones soon.

I'm pretty sure The Kid was hinted at in the New Years newsletter so at least we know that one is coming. I really want City Lights.

The quickest way to describe it emotionally is like an 80 minute visulaization of the "tears in the rain" monologue from Blade Runner.

Is the Seven Samurai Criterion worth a blind buy? It's currently one of the films at the top of my list of "must-see movies".

Is certainly is. One of the best movies ever made. Is more than three hours long but is so engrossing and beautifully told that it doesn't seem that long and is one of the best Criterion releases too. Go and buy it!
