need to order 'leon morin priest'... argh.

as far as 'le cercle rouge' goes...already have the criterion but this title had gotten flack for the colors, so getting a region a lionsgate (?) with different colors appeals to me..especially since it would be region a.

Metaridley,
Hopefully my little brother does indeed get Netflix going on his X-Box so I could stream Nobody Knows

I know there are no guarantees, but what are the odds that these titles that are going OOP will still be easily available by the time the next B&N sale rolls around (which I think is in July)?

UGGHHH

I dislike when titles go OOP. Marienbad has been on my list for a while, do I chance it and wait until the B&N sale in July?

Chucking Express was also rumored to be OOP but I still see that everywhere.

Been meaning to watch Army of Shadows at some point, but decided to just outright buy it.

Like, where do you see Chungking Express and for how much, may I ask?

I've been left out of this current generation of gaming consoles (Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo Wii) so I don't know what it's capable of but yes, hopefully you can make it work.

The aspect ratio on Netflix Instant is stretched vertically and looks horrible. Go with a physical rental if you can. Not sure if they fixed it however since it was a while ago.

May jump on some of those Melville films.

The only OOP title that I am concerned about getting is Leon Morin, Priest. The other 3 have really good Region B release from StudioCanal and if need be I can just buy them at a later date

Hmmm, I've never seen Nobody Knows on DVD so I have nothing to compare it with. Netflix Instant can be horribly frustrating and in more than just a few cases, downright shitty. And there are some people who think Blu-ray will soon be rendered obsolete by online streaming. HAH!

Streaming has a ton of problems. The best a film can look on Netflix Instant still pales compared to blu-ray HD. I can't fully comment on audio but I'm sure the same goes there. Not to mention dependency on internet connection. It complicates squeezing in a viewing that may possibly stretch another half-hour of unpredictable buffering. Sure you can argue that scratched discs are just as unpredictable, but the blu-ray format hardly has that problem.

Netflix Instant is what it is. A great-access rental system, but not a replacement. A future in downloading, however, is far more realistic than online streaming. But even that is far away due to the cost and amount of storage necessary (especially for a collection of my size).

It's not rumored, it IS OOP. Just because there still might be copies floating around doesn't change the fact that the disc is out of print.

I've always wondered if Blu-ray.com could keep a list of there OOP titles on the main page. Looks like the Blu-ray list of Criterion OOP titles is now:

The Third Man
The Man Who Fell to Earth
Chungking Express
Pierrot Le Fou
Playtime
Leon Morin, Priest
Army of Shadows
Le Cercle Rouge
Last Year at Marienbad

That's good news for me then, as I hope these new OOP titles stick around for a bit.

Sometimes when movies go out of print, NetFlix ceases to carry them. Any possibility of this happening? If so, I am definitely going to snag Le Duolos.

Also, is Studio Canal planning to issue the OOP titles in the US anytime soon?

I was at Barnes & Noble earlier and saw they had Chungking Express. Picked it up as a blind buy (I've never even seen any Wong-Kar Wai films) since I knew it was OOP and was going for high prices on Amazon, etc. Was this a good choice or not?
