why do you want to spend that much money on OOP criterion blurays?
why not get the region B releases? man who fell to earth is avaible for like ~13$. even a region B player + the region B bluray would be cheaper.

how many criterion movies are avaible (bluray+dvd)? and there will be so many upgrades and new releases each month...

For anyone who ordered Repo Man from Amazon during the recent sale, mine arrived today and it is in mint condition. Actually, it is in better shape than I usually find them at BN during the sales.

Now I just have to decide whether to watch Repo Man or Badlands (my 100th Criterion blu, by the way) first...

Can you explain this for those of us that are uninformed?

What this means, if indeed these sales do end/begin on these dates, there will be a three hour window of time to take advantage of both sales. Here's how it is able to happen: (1) the Barnes and Noble "buy two, get one free" sale extends to 3 AM to accommodate buyers in the Pacific Standard Time and (2) the Barnes and Noble 50% off Criterion collection sale starts at 12 midnight Eastern Standard Time.

Blu-rays that normally retail for $39.99 each can be had for an average of $13.33 each during that three hour window.
Making a sticky note of this right now and leaving it on my desktop...thanks for the info.

Just picked up 2 more movies with my reward zone credits. Bought Seven Samurai and Ugetsu (dvd) . Definitely on a Japanese film kick right now. I bought Kuroneko and Sansho the Baliff last week. Now on to the B&N sale next month.

Also, bought and watched Medium Cool today. It was a blind buy and I thought it was really good. Some great footage from the 60's! Didn't think the fictional plot was that great but the footage more than made up for the plot. Video quality was beautiful. Fine detail, great resolution with a nice even grain but not overwhelming. Definitely a time piece and anyone who enjoys the 60's , imo, should pick this one up. 4/5.

I recently bought playtime on DVD and was wondering if the upgrade to bluray is worth it? I'm also looking to possibly upgrade le cercle rouge to blu.

In general all upgrades to Blu-ray are improvements. Okay I know of at least one exception. BUt in the Criterion Collection I think its safe to say all are improvements.

I figured as much. It's tough in canada to get good deals on blus though, even with criterion and b&n sales, the shipping and fees eats away true savings. I'm really interested in getting playtime and le cercle rouge.

Havin just watched the film for the first time (and loving it), I'd be so happy if a Waking Life blu was announced alongside Slacker.

I just finished watching Repo Man. The last time I saw this movie was probably 10 or 12 years ago, on a 12 inch tv and a VHS copy. Needless to say the experience was a little different this time. The transfer on the movie looks absolutely fabulous.

Amen to that. Repo Man is a wonderful Criterion release.

The scene with Otto eating from his parents' refrigerator cracks me up so hard. Every time I even think about that scene, I can't stop laughing.

Glad to see so many people enjoying Repo Man. I thought it was good fun when I watched it back in April, but the more time that has passed, the less I enjoy it, thinking back. I'll probably watch it at least once more before I decide whether I'll sell or trade it, unless I can find someone who has something I really want to trade for it. Great bunch of supplements though.

Not sure how many of you follow film.com, but they posted their list of the 50 Best First Films Ever Made and there are a lot of Criterion titles included. Some of my all time favorite stuff shows up here, as well as a lot of stuff I've been long interested in but never gotten around to. http://www.film.com/movies/the-50-best-first-films

Those are both OOP and quite expensive. Sounds like you picked two of the most difficult Criterions to want to upgrade, sadly
