The BFI is more detailed. The Criterion softens the image to make the damage to the film less noticeable , but sacrifices some detail in the process.

The BFI also has "The Only Son" in HD on the same blu ray. The Criterion release of this film is DVD only.

BFI is region B locked.

(i have a region A and a Region B player^^)

Beyond awesome if true. I've been concerned that Criterion lost the rights to this title along with the other recently OOP Melville films.

I'm hoping for some more film noir, silent, cult, horror and there's some other titles that have caught my interest. Le Samuroi being one of them. Never seen it but the love for it is intense to say the least. I've done a little reading about it but not a lot (I like to go in unprepared for movies that interest me) and I think I'm going to love it.

Sadly I also want The Life Aquatic. I'm not a huge Wes Anderson fan but I do like his work. The Life Aquatic is the one movie of his I do LOVE though so it'll be nice when it eventually comes out. My dvd looks awful compared to the other Wes Anderson blu-rays.

The only Lynch film I haven't seen is Eraserhead. It'll be nice if that's announced. I've been holding out on it because I know it's coming. Also really hoping a Cronenberg box set with Shivers, Rabid, The Brood and Scanners gets announced.

I would just love to see some more edgy and unusual stuff hit the collection.

I didn't email them to complain, just to make sure they had sent me the correct copy. I have had the wrong thing sent to me occasionally in the past, so I figured it didn't hurt to check.

If Playtime is back in stock, buy it ASAP. It's OOP and they probably just found an unexpected box of old stock.

Yes, I am surprised too. I never save the blue stickers either after tearing open the cellophane or shrink-wrap. Maybe the reason some of the stickers aren't on the titles is some diehard collectors peeled them off when the B&N CSR wasn't looking. Technically, I don't believe it is stealing as a sticker is just a sticker, right? In any case, I'll never return a Criterion BD if there's no blue sticker on it.

I think the general consensus is that Playtime, although going OOP, is being halted so that it can be re-released.

Wasn't this also the consensus with the BRD trilogy? Just asking because my memory is vague on it and I've kept holding off on buying the DVD set

Badlands was incredible. The PQ is absolutely amazing.

Another knockout by Malick with some beautiful imagery. Martin Sheen is fantastic.

I'm hoping for Oshima's BOY to be announced this time! Is it true that another Oshima Eclipse set is in the works?

I'm hoping Scanners is announced this month but I'm thinking it will be announced next month for the October release date. Lots of horror films coming out in September though.

And I was looking at a film class for school this fall and I noticed the professor has some Criterions scheduled for viewings. It was Rashomon and Wild Strawberries. Found it funny since WS is coming out on Blu soon.
