i always wonder why they made the normal bluray cases look so cheap. even DVDs do look better on the shelf.

why dont you open your new criterions?

I dragged my feet too long on acquiring some Besta shelves from IKEA. Ended up building my own, sort of a middle ground between the Besta (which were quite narrow) and some bookshelves I have (whose shelves were too high and deep for Blu-rays).

Made two towers out of plywood laminate, 6 shelves each and they hold around 250 cases each (designed them to accomodate DVD and Blu-ray, otherwise I might've fit another shelf in). It was kind of a hassle but comparable in price to store-bought, and they are exactly what I wanted in terms of specs, so it was worth it. Otherwise I probably would have settled for IKEA Billy shelves.

Mostly chronological, but TV stuff, box sets, anime, music, etc. is separate. I know where everything is.

I love his commentary too. It would be a fantastic surprise if someday Criterion released My Voyage to Italy, his documentary about the history of Italian cinema. When people talk about Criterion films being like film history classes in a box, I always think of this film. With its four-hour running time, it truly was like a half-semester's worth of the best lectures on cinema I've heard. And completely entertaining. I saw when it came out in 1996 at the Full Frame Festival in Durham, NC, and it introduced me to a host of new (to me) movies. It's currently available from Bongo on DVD, but it would be a natural for Criterion blu-ray. They probably own the rights to half the featured films anyway.

I actually like mine from target, I just wish the shelves were thicker so they don't sag if books are on them. I wonder how white would look next to my giant chocolate brown couch.

This one has thick shelves.

blackhawktraffic;7828729]I thought I would always buy black shelves but wow this red is really awesome and Ikea is great. And that collection wow
I sold of many of my DVDs but even my Criterion Blu collection is small compared to most. I was going to attack the current Barnes sale but saving up for a new Panasonic plasma 65"

I can't for the life of me understand how you've got your Criterions categorized. It's definitely not by spine number or in alphabetical order.

I had to buy a whole new separate shelf for my Criterions. I used to keep them on the same shelf as my standard blus, but it became too much. Looks really nice now.

Is that a stand alone bookcase or a built-in? Looks nice either way.

Thanks.

It's a two-sided, eight-row shelf case. It's mounted into the wall and the wall acts as the back of the case.

I have Blu-rays on the first 7 rows on my left side, my Blu-ray Criterions on the first three rows on the right side, the 4th row on the right side is dedicated to DVD Criterions, the fifth row to standard DVDs, and the sixth to PS3 games.

I left room at the top of the case for memorabilia. I have my i, Robot head, my Walking Dead head, and several other things up there.

Great to hear! I certainly hope Freaks is the pre-code film, as its one of my absolute favorite classic horror films. Fingers crossed for Dead Ringers too!

They aren't organized right now, my whole bookshelf is flooded right now and i'm moving soon.

Although I personally like having all the bigger digipacks on the left and normal cases on the right.

My regular blu-rays are alphabetical, but with Criterion's I just don't want to. I like the Color blend right now. By Director or year of the film release is a possibility.
