I Married a Witch is definitely not a horror movie, from what I gather. It looks like a fun romantic comedy from the days when romantic comedies did not suck. Probably a perfect date movie for Halloween season.

Trust me, Eyes Without a Face will supply all of the pure horror that you could possibly ask for during the month of October.

I'm really looking forward to reading people's reactions to Eyes Without a Face here, since a lot of you will be seeing it for the first time with the Blu-ray edition. I will not spoil anything plotwise, but
[Show spoiler]Eyes Without a Face plays out like you would expect an edgy-but-not-too-edgy 1960 horror flick to play out for a while, but then, suddenly...whoah!...they just showed that?...holy ****!....Nooooooo!

If you've never seen Eyes Without a Face, it will knock you flat on your tail. It really will.

Through it all, though, it's one of the most beautiful Criterion titles out there. It's a splendid film as far as cinematography and scenery are concerned.

I notice that Criterion seems to have erased all the questions or comments about the prices of Uninvited and I Married A Witch from their Facebook page. Looks like those are the set prices, sadly.

+1

It will also please those that have you seen either Holy Motors or The Skin I Live In.

It's simultaneously poetic and horrifying. One of the great horror films of cinema. And that final shot, oh how I love it..

Maybe this has been mentioned before but I just noticed that Criterion now post the cover artist/designer on each release's page.

From the New Year's Drawing and strong rumors these could be the titles for November and December?

Cronenberg Collection: The Brood, Scanners, Rabid, Shivers

It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

The Kid (the next Chaplin)

Tess

Picnic at Hanging Rock

Eraserhead

Mulholland Drive

Le Samourai (upgrade)
Every single one of these would be excellent titles.

Also has M. Butterfly been released on DVD???

IFC owns the rights.

I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't come out until 2014 or something and Criterion released it then, similar to The Kid With A Bike.

Yeah, I noticed that too.

Do you think if we e-mail the cover designers, they'll tell us what covers they just recently did for Criterion's future releases?

Thanks for the correction. I desperately hope we don't have to wait that long.

Taking a break from my Criterion stack to watch my recent purchase of Rio Bravo. The picture quality could be better, but it's pretty good as is.

Looking forward to adding Lord of the Flies and Monsieur Verdoux to my stack tomorrow.

I thought Umberto D was Bergman's favorite film? Anyway I'm gonna pick it up for sure.

According to Criterion's blurb about The Phantom Carriage, it's the film that inspired Bergman to make movies.

In for The Uninvited and I Married A Witch; now I can retire my unofficial copies. Those covers are Sexxay!!! Bummed about the rather non-existent extras though but getting them on Blu is the most important thing.

Can't decide if I want to add The Warped World of Koreyoshi Kurohara eclipse set, the Nikkatsu Noir eclipse set or the Pierre Etaix set... Any advice?

Both of the Japanese sets are solid purchases. Haven't seen the Etaix films.

I'd wholeheartedly recommend the Etaix films to anyone who enjoys Chaplin, Keaton, Tati, and even Godard.

Pro-B
I assume it will still be standard-def, and housed on the Shadows disc.

I Married A Witch is a romantic comedy, just with supernatural themes. Not a horror picture at all. March and Lake are both great. It's a must-have if you like that era of Hollywood (you know, "the golden age" ).

Still waiting for Criterion to get their hands on MGM's River's Edge. It's perfect for them.

I'm going to get an Eclipse set this sale, and I've got in down to 4, but I can only get 1. When Horror Came to Shochiku, Nikkatsu Noir, Late Ozu, or Oshima's Outlaw Sixties. The only eclipse set I own right now is Post-war Kurosawa.
