There are a lot of questions going through my mind about the Dual Format thing...

1. How will the cases accommodate this? Have we seen the end of the wonderful clear plastic cases?
2. How will these discs be housed? Will they stack them? (God, I hope not.)
3. Is this some newfangled new technology dual-format flip disc or something absymal like that? (I don't see this happening, but who knows? I'm thinking about the godawful DualDisc music packages that had DVD and CD on flip sides of a double-sided disc.)
4. Will the cases have overlapping disc holders, like the recent double-disc Criterion DVD packages? Meh.

We are indeed on the same page. I guess I just try to find the good in things.

I would think it'd be like Brazil's case. The overlapping kind. Which I'm fine with. All you have to do is put the DVD on the bottom. I don't know what the DVD cases are like.

I know that you like Malick movies a lot, so I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts about the movie. To the Wonder looks so amazing on Blu-ray.

I think the Hot Deals forum posted a 15% off coupon I had a 20% off coupon I used with my Barnes membership card. I know the 20% off coupons are unique codes but I think the 15% off are generic ones.

Just too measured, Owl.

Multiply your number by 16.4. That's my 2013 tally so far

Maybe they've been doing their marketing... perhaps the core demographic of their base, have mostly upgraded to blu-ray or will be (Since blu-ray and HD are getting cheaper).

Respect!

I used to see at least two movies a month. This year, I've been cool just to chill at home with my Blu-rays, and most movie releases do not quicken my pulse.

I'll probably rent Mud from the Redbox booth soon.

There's a newish movies that I've been wanting to see for ages. North Face, about the German mountain climbers. It's not a 2013 film, but it only recently came available on Blu-ray here on these shores... I might break down and blind buy it from Amazon at some point. Everything about the movie seems right up my alley.

This is just opinion, but I honestly don't get the anger towards Frances Ha. If it were in French and made in the 1960s, we'd all view it as a masterpiece. I really enjoyed it.

I can understand legitimate reasons for criticizing films and TV (I say this as a huge fan of Wes Anderson and Lena Dunham's work while understanding that each has their flaws), but simply disliking stories revolving around "privileged white people" doesn't really work for me anymore. I'm all for diversity in storytelling and character, but we should offer further reasons than "privileged white characters" for disliking something. Citizen Kane is all about the life and struggles of a privileged white man, and no one ever criticizes it for that. What matters is how well a story or idea is told, not race. The issue of gender is a factor in this (a conversation that's difficult to have without someone resorting to stereotype or immaturity), as well as reaction to stories that contain protagonists that are intentionally flawed or unlikeable (as in Frances Ha or Lena Dunham's work), but "privileged white characters" is becoming the new "I just didn't like it" to me.

I know no one's outright saying this, and I'm by no means one of those "where's my White History Month?" people, I just feel like it's an issue worth bringing up. For the most part, the people on this thread are mature, knowledgeable about film, and able to articulate why they dislike something.

I'm all in for Frances Ha and City Lights. I'll check out Tokyo Story on Hulu before I buy it, and I'm sure I'll love it. That Zatoichi box set is gorgeous, but a blind buy would be a stab in the heart of my wallet. I'll try to watch some of the movies before committing.

Sweet. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Mud. I have a good feeling it will at least rank as #2.

To be honest, I have only seen that many new releases because of MoviePass. Also, at the start of the year I dared myself to see over 120 in theaters. I think I may just hit 150.

Forgot it was already that time of the month. Maaaaybe I'll see Frances Ha but the trailer does nothing for me. Does this mean I'll have to ask Santa for Eraserhead?

I was thinking of the fourth option like with The Samurai Trilogy.

I put a big shrug emoticon next to Frances Ha in my initial post simply because I do not know enough about the film to decide if I want it. I tend to favor older Criterion titles over films that were released in theaters during the past decade (Revanche is an exception in my collection.), but I'll give Frances Ha a go if my research yields positive findings.

Terrence Malick's To the Wonder is about privileged white people to an arguable extent, but it's still an exceptional film.

I could live with that. It looks like a decently sturdy case.

(And I still need to upgrade The Samurai Trilogy from DVD at some point.)

Yeah it does look more firm than the MoC dual formats.
