It might just be my imagination, but it seems that Criterion titles are more likely to go out of print if they're French films. I suppose it doesn't help that StudioCanal tends to hover over French film rights like a vulture.

yep im glad i got a copy of 400 blows, lets hope breathless works out as well. if not...just gonna get the UK release. im not that criterion addicted but its a nice looking digipack.

probably a good idea to get other french criterion releases on time.

[Show spoiler]I've always figured that this cut indicates that, in the grand scheme of things, nothing truly significant has happened between those two moments in terms of human evolution. In other words, early man's encounter with the monolith signaled one important stage of our evolution, while mankind's discovery of the monolith on the moon signaled that we as a species were ready for the subsequent evolutionary step (Bowman into the star child).

Others believe the match cut simply shows that both the bone and the spacecraft are mere tools.
I go with the latter. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

I tend to agree. It was very much like a spinning clock or panning away from an empty ashtray and back to a (really, really, really, really, really) full one. The abrubtness of the transition wasn't just stylistic, it was meant to convey that nothing much of import happened during the time that elapsed.

We learned to use tools and yada yada yada here were are in space.

Yea, I only included Criterions. Actually, the whole month of September Friday's prime time is dedicated to "the future" plus they're showing the 15 part Story of Film and many of the films depicted in that documentary over the next several months. Good stuff.

I hope that nobody takes offense to this, but the recent Polanski discussions in this thread reminded me that I still haven't upgraded my Repulsion DVD.
Repulsion is amazing as is The Killing.

I still remember certain scenes from Repulsion giving me chills. That door mirror scene.

B&N dropped the price on Earrings... to $30 so I grabbed that along with Seconds and To be or Not to Be. Now I just have to catch up on what I bought in the July sale before the new titles arrive!

maybe but that doesnt say how many copys are avaible.. 2 / 20 / 200? everything could mean "still in sale"

400 blows is not in the current B&N sale, only a few sellers on ebay have copys for a high price, amazon does only sell through marketplace retailers.

same goes for breathless that is not in stock @ B&N , both are in the OOP list in that one forum, theres the twitter talk.

most likely these movies will be avaible for a while through some sellers for a higher price but everything looks like "OOP"

and thats a shame for everyone that likes to collect such movies from their favorite label.

Whenever Criterion doesn't have any in stock, it appears OOP on all of the websites.

The same thing happened with some of the Eclipse sets.

so maybe B&N and Amazon are waiting now for stock from criterion? (amazon says "shipped in 1-3 weeks)

could be the last chance to grab a copy for a "normal" price. wish they would announce stuff like that a little bit sooner.

but their is still the chance they might release dual format editions of these movies

I find it very unlikely that they will re-release everything as dual format, especially any time soon.

I'm going to assume that they're just waiting on stock, as it's happened several times in the past. Plus, if the films were going OOP, Criterion would have made an announcement. Take Breathless, for example. Wouldn't Band of Outsiders, Vivre sa vie, and Week End also go OOP (as they're all part of the Godard deal)?

Of all the titles that would go OOP, Breathless and The 400 Blows seem like two of the most shocking. I could see the latter going OOP for a boxset release, but I can't fathom a reason for Breathless.

Now that Flesh for Frankenstein was just released in Japan and Blood for Dracula is set for release there in October, what are the chances that Criterion may get them again and release them on blu-ray? I really want english subtitles and I don't think the Japanese releases have them. These are some of my favorite movies so I am trying to decide if I should import them or patiently wait.....

I don't think all those titles are going OOP on BD, only on DVD, since Criterion is discontinuing their DVD-only releases and most likely reissuing the BDs in their new BD-DVD combo format.

Just my guess.

Yes! I am so looking forward to this release after having read the positive review.

BY THE WAY, I AM BACK!!!!!

Yes, I was suspended for 3 or 4 days for posting something I shouldn't have on here (in response to "thebronxbull" regarding finding a way to watch that Kubrick documentary Room 237, I posted a link to a piracy website, tsk tsk tsk, not smart of me...I guess I learned my lesson).

So I've been reading the postings and now finally I am free to post again. And I am just happy to say that I look forward to Slacker on Blu-ray!

Hooray!

TheGreatOwl:

Please, please, please let me know you felt after re-watching 2001: A Space Odyssey again! This film is one of my favorites of all time. I am surprised you don't own this on Blu-ray yet. I am fully confident you're going to love the clarity and sharpness of watching this in high definition.

(sorry, still getting caught up on 4+ days of postings I missed)
