Back from Barnes & Noble...

2001: A Space Odyssey
Fast Times at Ridgemont High

These will make for a good double feature night tomorrow. 2001: A Space Odyssey shows us how mankind evolved, while Fast Times at Ridgemont High shows us why mankind evolved.

The "Buy Two, Get One Free" sale is on for the Criterion Blu-rays, but I can get them cheaper online than in person with that particular sale.

Congratulations... that may very well be the first Star Wars reference not linked to a "Hidden Fortress" discussion in the Criterion forum, ever.

I hear that. Getting a Criterion release because it's going OOP (or may go OOP) is really just a matter of pushing it up the priority list, not getting something you didn't want in the first place.

I hear that, too. That's what makes it an amazing (and frustrating) label.

Watching La Femme Nikita for the first time in years sure did bring back a lot of memories. This film was so cutting-edge back in the 1990s, and it still packs a punch as my favorite Luc Besson film. The Blu-ray looks great!

It's fun to see an older role by Jeanne Moreau, the beautiful star of so many Criterion titles. Elevator to the Gallows, Jules and Jim, Touchez Pas Au Grisbi, The Lovers, Diary of a Chambermaid, The 400 Blows, and La Notte.

Yes indeed... yet while in an act of sacrifice (helping another person on here finding a way to watch Room 237), I committed an act of illegal activity (posting a link to a free movie download)...but a lesson learned is a lesson learned. I am wiser now.

Too bad that you were suspended. I was wondering why I had not seen the Lost in Translation avatar for a few days.
Yes... I had a feeling you missed seeing my Scarlett Johansson avatar. Now you are free to engage me any time again.

On another note, I just watched In the Mood for Love for the first time earlier this week and I thought the movie had remarkable cinematography...though the story was a bit ponderous in my opinion. It was truly sad at the end especially and reminded me of a past relationship. My favorite Wong Kar-Wai film is still Chungking Express by far. Amazing how it took only a month to film that instead of 15 months to finish ITMFL.

Do you think CE is more fast paced than ITML? I agree so far my favorite is CE though I know I haven't watched all his films yet.

The newest Besson doesn't look that great ('The Family' or something like that). I hope I am proven wrong next week.

*thats my favorite Besson too*

I've been watching, or rather trying to watch Shoah.

Is there ever a proper way to watch this documentary? This is a commitment to go through a 9-hour doc, and while I did see the whole thing...I don't remember watching the whole thing. Do you understand what I mean?

This is the main reason why I have held off on buying Shoah. I feel that I need to see it once, but I'll probably go through a local library to do so, since I have a feeling that it's not exactly a movie that I'll be plowing through multiple times.

I'm similarly conflicted about the upcoming Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman box set. Those movies sound incredibly fun, and I like the snippets that I've watched online, but 25 movies...
I am hard-pressed to imagine rewatching all 25 of those movies. On the other hand, it'll probably be worth it half-price somewhere just to revisit the highlights from time to time.

I need to set aside some time for me to attempt watching it as well

It isn't. It definitely feels like a "once and done" experience, unless you're REALLY invested in the cold facts of the Holocaust through various perspectives that you want to go through it with a fine comb.

(and yea, it's probably best to check it from a local library; that's what I did)

I watched the 50th Anniversary Blu-ray of To Kill a Mockingbird tonight. I've always loved this film, and I love it more now than ever with the outstanding transfer. This one would make a great double-feature with 12 Angry Men.

During this particular viewing, however, I was reminded of Anatomy of a Murder, which I used to own on DVD, but have not got around to upgrading yet. I can bide my time with upgrading this one, but it really is a fascinating movie.

Despite not receiving an answer through John Mulvaney in regards to the 400 Blows and Breathless OOP rumors and whatnot I bit the bullet and ran to my local B&N...no such luck...afterwards, though I found them through a seller on the B&N marketplace and order both for a grand total of 51.67 for both shipped new...hooray!!!
