Yeah, I was going to hit the local B&N to do the B2G1 thing, but I wasn't sure when I'd be able to get there, or if there'd be a copy for me to get, so I bit for a copy of Breathless (I already have The 400 Blows) from an Amazon marketplace seller for $27-and-change (I have Prime, so no shipping).

It's way overrated if you ask me. Of course one mustn't ever say that given the subject, but still ...

It's okay to have a dissenting take. Look at Pauline Kael's review--she states her case against the film admirably.

Why not order directly from Amazon? They still have some in stock.

Oh most definitely. Even though I've only watched ITMFL once, it just didn't grab me like Chungking Express did. I guess I like exterior filming a lot and In the Mood for Love felt claustrophic at times to me... I wanted to break free of the interiors and "get outside". I understand the shooting was very difficult as in Hong Kong there aren't many "old streets" any longer (which is why they had to shoot a lot of exteriors in Bangkok, Thailand). I just love CE because the film is so free-spirited and "run and gun" Guerrilla filmmaking. The characters in CE are really fun and familiar too. I wish Wong Kar-Wai could make more movies like that one again.

Is there ever a proper way to watch this documentary? This is a commitment to go through a 9-hour doc, and while I did see the whole thing...I don't remember watching the whole thing. Do you understand what I mean?
I still have yet to get around to watching this. I think its going to be the last movie I get around to watching (9.5 hours is daunting). But I hear that the way to watch it is in "parts" of 4. I believe, if I read correctly, there are 4 parts to it which are about 2 - 2 1/2 hours each. I guess you can dedicate a week to this and watch 1 part a night and then spend a few nights watching the supplements. That is how I intend to spend my "Shoah Week" (which again, is very daunting for me).

So. Do we draw any conclusions from him not answering?

better buy the movies from a marketplace seller or ebay. they have still a few copies avaible. i think there are high chances that B&N might just cancel that movie ....

for people outside of the U.S. a few ebay sellers like newbury comics & moviemars do still offer a "ok" price for international shipping.

Has anyone else ordered "To Be Or Not To Be" from B&N and got a ship date in three weeks time?

Yup... I talked to B&N support on the phone and they said they it's listed as a pre-order on their side. i argued and said it's already out and how come the website says shipis in 1-2 days. I argued for a few minutes to now avail, then they said that Breathless was the reason. All that being said... i got no real answer. So who knows....

All this talk of things going OOP, I ordered Breathless for $23. Come payday, I'll try to check out 400 Blows.

What did she not like about Shoah, other than the thought that it was very taxing?

I doubt 400 Blows is OOP. Since its first release it was only out if print for a very short time years ago. Also, I really hope it isn't OOP as I desperately want a bluray upgrade of the Antoine Doinel set

Here's her full length review. It's very much worth a read:

Pg. 1: http://www.webcitation.org/6GVtqqMt5

Pg. 2: http://www.webcitation.org/6GVuKL6ip

Pg. 3: http://www.webcitation.org/6GVvRgBKm

(They're not opening on my iPhone, but the links can be found on Shoah's wiki page)

I would also suggest reading J. Rosenbaum's take on the film just for a balance.

They're 404'd, here and through the wiki page. Maybe I can find snippets of her review elsewhere.

I'm willing to hear both sides of the story, but personally speaking, I wonder if I should even try this again.

Great. Classic Barnes and Noble. I've sent them an email.
