Fanatastic Mr. Fox is Wes Anderson's best film.

That said, a Criterion release seems pointless.

Good choices. Badlands and M are my favorite 2 but the entire list is solid fo sho

Yup. That's what I'm saying, the current release is more than satisfactory. Only if they give us some never-before-seen mystery cut will I rebuy it.

So just about 50% off for me! I know, I know, I could have waited 3 more weeks until the 50% sale but I just felt good with this purchase today.
I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts about Seconds. The film got a mixed reaction here on this thread, but I think that it's a wonderful Criterion title, and I've been raving about it for a long time.

I'm going to use the 30% off sale to buy Eyes Without a Face today. I just reserved the copy at the store on the way home from work. Woo hoo!

May be in the minority here but I love Fantastic Mr. Fox and I consider it one of Anderson's finest films. I've never bought the Fox BD in hopes of a Criterion release and if in fact that article is true, I'll be very happy. Hopefully they'll release Moonrise Kingdom next as the Universal release is almost bare-bones in terms of bonus features.

Well today is the big day - I think its more fun to go in with no anticipations and just see if there is anything of interest

Eyes Without A Face is on the way too..such a great horror-esque film !

Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl was one of my favorite books during my childhood.

I declined to see the movie after hearing that the original story had been wesandersonized beyond recognition for the movie, and that the final result was quite unlike the book. I'll probably get around to checking out the movie at some point, but I have not been in a hurry so far.

...Sad, really.

(Watching a movie like the 70's Willy Wonka or Matilda just reminds you of how much Roald Dahl knew SO much about wacky dysfunctionality that Wes Anderson only snootily brays that he thinks he knows, but could also take it to the playing field of lampoon, and naturally explain it to a 10-yo. child without having to clunkily turn every force-of-habit F-bomb into "Cussin'".)

Wait, you mean a director took source material and adapted it for a different medium?!?!

Well, uh...actually...I...uh...uh...

Okay...good point.

After seeing Spike Jonze butcher Where the Wild Things Are, I'm hesitant to revisit some modern updates of my favorite childhood books, though.

Has anybody watched I Married a Witch yet? I was intending to put this one off until November, but it looks to be a fun Halloween flick, and the price is probably right this week with the sale.

Where the Wild Things Are is Jonze's best film.

Just thought I'd add my two cents.

It's OK. It's a very slight comedy and even at 77 minutes, it tends to drag in reaching an end.

March wasn't the type of actor to carry a screwball comedy, IMO.

Given the state of the verison that was up on Hulu, the BD is well done, but being a second-tier CC, it still shows more wear-and-tear than folks are used to with Criterion releases.

I know a lot of people who love that movie, but it put me under in a pretty bad way. I cannot quite put my finger on it, but it was one of the most depressing films that I've ever seen in my life. I guess that it was effective cinema in that sense, but it was not what I was expecting at all.
