Unless you work for a bank or some level of government is Columbus Day even a holiday anymore?

It's like Arbor Day for most people, isn't it?

I work for state government, so I had Columbus Day off yesterday. Went for a run, cleaned up my place, went to Movie Stop, and watched The Big Parade.

Although I love their finished product, Criterion continually frosts me over the "here it is, no it isn't" stuff. What could possibly change between now and tomorrow that prevents them from simply listing their January releases? The answer is either (A)- nothing, just a ploy to stir up attention; or (B)- they are so unorganized they can't take 10 minutes to post a simple update to their website. C'mon!

This is my overall problem with the ever-growing "boutique" distributors (Criterion, Twilight Time, etc). They all feel the need to do things to make their releases "special", i.e., charging higher prices (TT) or these incessant teases (Criterion), many of which never see the light of day. I actually much prefer actually hearing nothing, then getting an actual, definitive press release once a release date is firmly established.

Then they should just post a listing of titles....artwork not required. Most studio press releases announcing a future blu-ray release don't have final cover art available.

October 15th is right between the 14th and the 16th just like every other month.

It's not like they have some floating deadlines that move around from month to month. Sure, shit happens and shit happening is not the end of the world (so far, anyway) but it's not very professional either.

Look in the comments section on the right hand side of their page
Since when does a Government holiday affect the announcement of a few titles from Criterion ?? Shutdown or not, Columbus Day shouldn't have any bearing on announcements from Criterion.

c'mon.. really? I doubt Criterion ever lost a sale because they announced their new titles one day after everyone expected them to.
