First of all, Oceans 11, 12, and 13 are all competently made films and while art is subjective, I find it impossible that any of those movies are amongst the worst you have ever seen. Of all movies to pick on, you go with Oceans? This is coming from someone who is not a fanboy of them and merely think they are "Ok".

Second, you make the statement that it is amongst the worst films you have ever seen yet it is the defenders who are being "snobby". Really? Have a look in the mirror for a few minutes. Also re-read some of the people's comments. Is "Boo" really snobby?

We get it. You are not a fan of the movies and nor am I. But unless you were raised on nothing but Sight and Sounds Top 100 Films of all time (and many of those I would open to criticism before an " Oceans" film) then I am sure you have seen at least a dozen films worse then Soderberg's hommage to heist films, the Rat Pack and golden era Hollywood films.

Please, give the late 90s/early 00s forum posting a rest and try to be part of a constructive community.
What the hell?

You sure do seem like a big Ocean's/Soderbergh fan considering I wasn't even talking to you in the first place and yet you write this lengthy, excoriating reply. How silly can you get, being so defensive about the freaking Ocean's trilogy?

Ocean's Twelve really is one of the worst films I've ever seen. I'm not being hyperbolic and if it's impossible for you to comprehend that such a statement could be true, then be on your merry way.

I didn't quote Andrew's "Boo" reply in that particular post because there was nothing snobby about it. So yeah, that particular attack tactic of yours is just flat-out made up.

I didn't care for that scene either.

But maybe the lesson to learn here is: Don't EVER insult the Ocean's movies in the Criterion thread.

Huh. Who would've thunk it?

It's because of Wes Anderson films that a company like Criterion can afford to release the movies you want, the ones that don't sell well. People need to understand how businesses work.

Have you run the numbers yourself or is there a source you'd care to cite?

Hey, I'm not even the biggest fan of Ocean's Twelve (it's near the bottom of my Soderbergh rankings, almost tied with Full Frontal), and I was mostly just kidding around there. However, if you insult pretty much any other Soderbergh movie besides Frontal, Erin Brockovich, and The Good German, there will be Hell to pay.

I'm just using common sense. A title like The Royal Tenenbaums is gonna outsell Babette's Feast 100 to 1.

Seriously, who cares if someone likes or dislikes a film/franchise? This petty *****ing back and forth does nothing except create pages of pointless arguing. Let the Criterion love commence!

It's pretty much just Ocean's Twelve that I hate. Out of all the other Soderbergh films I've seen, that's the only one I'll complain about.

Yeah but I'm sure they could get their hands on other popular titles (as they have in the past) instead of just playing it safe by releasing Wes Anderson's entire filmography... including a film (Fantastic Mr. Fox) that already has a Blu-ray release! That's the point I'm making, not that Anderson shouldn't be represented in the Collection at all.

I agree. I never thought I'd have to defend my hatred for Ocean's Twelve in this thread from several of its defenders/closet defenders but there you go. I apologize to everyone else who is just looking for Criterion-related discussion but I didn't want to let slide the ridiculous replies I received.

Fair enough, that's one way of looking at it. I still think Criterion could have found some other popular films instead of going the "easy" route and releasing another Anderson film.

Next time I'm insulted on here I'll try not to respond but you have to admit, sometimes it's quite tempting.

I watched Frances Ha last night on netflix. It was strange because for the first ten minutes or so, it felt wired watching it in black and white, but after that I dint even consciously see it as a black and white film. It was very well made, and I'm glad I watched it. I probably won't buy it though.

Not to mention they're on very good terms with Anderson, and they have been since 1999.

if anderson's movies make enough money for some lesser known movies from other directors its probably fine if these spot dont go to someone else.

are the hitchcock movies that criterion did release avaible in boxsets of other labels?

On the bright side, Life Aquatic is the only Anderson title left they haven't released on Blu-ray so once that inevitable upgrade is announced, I just have to hope that the rights for all of his future films are taken by some other distributor.
