blowitoutahere

its my favorite ebay seller for blurays from the U.S. since they dont including shipping fee in the price thats shown on the parcel, you get lucky with customs more often. and they got a pretty awesome customer service if something arrives damaged !

B&N: horrible customer service, respond time may be OK but everything else sucks about them.. customer friendly? not really. if something gets damaged or lost you are more or less screwed.

12 angry man.. dont know why i did forget to order these with my B&N orders... ;( looks like one of the "must have" criterions...
I'm hoping I can snag a copy, but I'm probably going to be out of touch when it goes live in a place with poor cell reception. I'll still give it a shot. I think the price will be the normal $17.99 that they've been using for their lightning deal CC releases.

Sat through the Donald Ritchie commentary track on Rashomon today. It was not to me as interesting as the Stephen Price commentary tracks I've heard on Criterion's other Kurosawa movies, but it had its several insightful moments. Ritchie's one fault is that like some other critics he tends to over-analyze. Kurosawa was a very direct artist who wished to make entertaining films and his films reflected his simplicity of approach. Reading excessively into the "meaning" of a camera angle or passing such remarks as "diagonal objects placed in the frame indicate a change in mood" [sic] makes me go "Whut you say?"

yeah in all movies kurosawa talks about movies he always says more or less something like "movies should be fun" , kurosawa made awesome probably some of the best movies ever but he was no david lynch.. i liked the rashomon commentary but he made up so much stuff that i thought was odd to mention at all. i didnt even think that kurosawa himself thought about some of that stuff he says there^^

my favorite commentary so far was the on sanjuro/yojimbo

Glad you enjoyed it J0RDAN! It's my second favorite in the trilogy with Three Colors: Red being my personal favorite of the three.

The extras are amazing and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the other two films!

You also bought Seven Samurai and Zatoichi right? Have you had the chance to watch either of those yet? I have been able to watch the first 9 Zatoichi films on youtube and they are very enjoyable. I will try to buy the set early next year. Need to save up some money even if I can get it at 50% off.

Anyway, seems like you are building your Criterion Collection very quickly
Thanks, Meek! I'll have to definitely check out The Double Life of Veronique. I can't wait to dig into the rest of the trilogy!

Zatoichi is an incredible package! 25 enjoyable films in one set is insane. BN should have another sale early next year (I hope), so you can snag one then. Good thing they're on YouTube! I will watch the first Zatoichi film today, possibly even the second as well. All of the praise for them has me excited.

The very thing I was worried about! Getting things too quickly. I love it all though! Can't resist the sale.

Thank you, Silent! I will watch White today and post my reaction/thoughts afterwards.

Happy to see that this one has more humor in it.

Double Life is much better than any of the three films in the Three Colors Trilogy.

I wouldn't put Lynch in the same league as Kurosawa. For me, Lynch only has 2-3 great movies. Blue Velvet is easily the most overrated film amongst film buffs and Elephant Man is sentimental crap. Kurosawa has atleast 6-7 truly great movies.

Both Lynch and Kurosawa are great. Neither are vastly superior to one another.

I'm on the "waitlist" for 12 Angry Men. What kind of s##t is that?!? Geez, a month and a half ago, I was singing the praises of Amazon. 2 problems I have now... #1 a "waitlist" is b.s. - honor the damn deal and ship later... or maybe they had 20 copies to sell. ?? #2 I've been price tracking a few Criterion titles and I noticed that Amazon lowers their prices around this time of year to around $17.99 for a basic title. If it's for 2 hours and I have to 'camp out', so to say, to ensure I get their 'black Friday' deal, I'd rather give the $25 and join the masses at B & N.

I know they run them until they sell the allotment, but I'd much rather see them run the deal for just 1 hour. However, with the speed the Criterion stuff has been going they'd probably end up selling the entire stock for close to what they paid to get the stock from Criterion.

Ebay.ca & co.uk first for me as they are more reasonable with shipping costs. Failing them I look at Amazon.ca then .com.
