How do I know if I have a defective disc for White? The back of the box and digipack for it say its a First Pressing.

I was lucky and was able to snag it on Monday for $9.99 at B&N before the sale ended. It's a Digipack. I think they look beautiful, but its annoying that the booklets can't be held in place. And because of the extra DVDs, the Digipacks are bulky.

I guess Criterion is releasing Digipacks again as the main casing.

They're only releasing DigiPacks for three-disc sets. Both City Lights and Frances Ha, for example, are dual format and they are both in plastic cases.

These should be available in plastic cases, with the rest being DigiPacks.

-The Long Day Closes
-Rififi
-Thief
-Throne Of Blood
-La Vie De Bohème

I don't know why criterion can't use plastic cases with a "flipper" tray... I find the digipacks to be awfully flimsy.

I, too, would like to own the World Cinema Project. It's high on my list of blu-ray priorities as I think it's an important package.

As soon as I see a substantial discount — buy one get one; 40% or more off, etc. — I'll jump. I suspect Barnes & Noble will have a big enough sale this month that makes the price of this box more attractive.

There's always the next Criterion flash sale, but I doubt we'll have to wait that long.

The correct WHITE disc says "Second Pressing".

His avatar is from Grosse Point Blank. That's a cool little movie with a great soundtrack.

I prefer High Fidelity, but Grosse Point Blank is still awesome.

This is out on blu region-free from France, along with two other Borzage titles. I've not seen the blus, but could be worth an import. Don't recall it looking bad in the Fox Borzage big dvd box, and these blus were likely sourced from the same masters, similar to MoC's Sunrise blu.

Long story short I ordered them (while on sale) a couple/three years back, but this was in the midst of amazon.fr's problems with shipping things out and then getting returned to them immediately as having bad addresses, so in the end I never got them. (I've since ordered once or twice from there and had no problems, same address.)

Thought about trying again earlier this week, but decided to spare my wallet some more pain by just going with the couple of titles I was most interested in instead (
Les Parapluies de Cherbourg is finally on its way!).

Just watched Kurosawa's Dreams last night for the first time. Very interesting watch...there were many wonderful aspects but that last segment was beautiful.

I used a coupon to buy Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion this afternoon, since I had a gift card to use along with it. This is the one December release that I'm really fired up to see, so this is going to be a nice addition to my weekend.

I'm not loving the fact that Dual Format necessitates a digipak with this release, but it's a handsome package.

I know the answer is probably no, but is there any chance Pink Floyd's The Wall could get a criterion?

Thanks, jayembee. Sort of a completist here, too, but in denial and was hoping for an excuse to get the new release. I'll read a bit about the two versions so I can rationalize what I'm probably going to do anyway.

I had no idea, and this is great news. Seems to me like silent film was hitting a real peak when sound interrupted it, and I really liked Street of Angels. Time to stimulate the French economy. ....and I've never seen all of Cherbourg, but the color has to look great in hi def. Keep us posted.

I said I was done until after Christmas, but apparently I lied. The Gold Rush is on the way now.

Just a heads up-For Robert Bresson fans TCM Imports is showing a film every Sunday night (my time zone)* this month. This week will be his The Trial of Joan of Arc followed by Dreyer's The Passion of Joan of Arc. A fascinating double bill.

*which equals Monday 2am EST
