Looks like there is a copy at that same store though (according to the website), unbeknownst to that same store manager.

Interestingly, there weren't Criterion and Janus title cards on "Frances Ha." I only made it through about 1/2 hour. It seemed like the dialog was awful(ly) improvised.

I do not believe that much, if any, of the dialogue is improvised.

Hunh? There is no Criterion DVD of Lifeboat. It was released (in the US) by Fox.

I love it as well, but I love Spiders just a little bit more.

Give it another watch. I wasn't particularly impressed with it early on, but I found myself liking it quite a bit by the end.

Noah says in the interview with Bogdanovic that none of the dialogue is improvised except for a bit with Frances' parents.

I still don't have any idea what to think of Certified Copy. Strange film about relationships.

Is Barnes & Noble not offering this for sale?

If someone can confirm if this is true, I would be really happy.
I can neither confirm nor dispute your claim. I can tell you this: I went to Barnes and Noble the day of the release of Nashville and Grey Gardens. I suspected something very similar to what you may be suspecting. Three days later when I went back to the store, both titles were in stock, and I was able to take advantage of the "B1G1 free" sale.

Personally I find the news very exciting. Glad to see both Fox and Sony releasing some of there catalogue titles directly (Or possibly being licensed to CC).
Yeah, Fox has been on a decent run. Over the past month or two I've picked up The Fly, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Fantastic Voyage and Three Faces of Eve all at very reasonable prices. I've watched The Fly in its entirety and got interupted toward the end of VttBotS but they're both really nice discs.

I was a little skeptical going in but I wound up really, really liking Frances Ha. And I'm still amazied at how good the digital faux black-and-white looked.

I've not yet gone back to it but yeah, I think I'm going to pay a bit more attention when I eventually do. There were too many 'wait, what's this now' moments for me to give it a fair evaluation after only that single viewing.

Oh! The one I saw was in a set -- must have thought it was Criterion because it had Rebecca, ... .

edit: It was in a "Primiere Collection," and it was from MGM.

What a special film, a genuine masterpiece. That word is used too much anymore, this film deserves that term.

It simply blew me away and it is probably in my top 5 foreign films, I cannot stop thinking about it.

I am starting to be more rigid on ratings but this film is a definite:

5/5
Cria Cuervos is similar for me. That little girl just knocks me out.

May have break down and import it if Criterion doesn't get to it soon.

20th Century Fox has been hitting one home run after another this year.

My favorite Blu-ray release of 2013, in terms of film content, picture quality, and extras, is Laura. I spent a couple of days watching the film repeatedly, going through the commentaries and the extras. Everyone who owns a Blu-ray player should have this title in their collections.

Niagara is a superb release as well, and it might just be the best Technicolor transfer that I own.

Fantastic Voyage is phenomenal in terms of Blu-ray picture quality.

Wild River, The Fly, and The Three Faces of Eve are all beyond reproach.

Panic in the Streets is in my current stack of noir titles waiting to be watched, and I am sure that it'll rank up there with the rest of this studio's 2013 output as far as old classics are concerned.

People frequently reserve Criterion New releases. The Monday before Tokyo Story came out I went in to reserve a copy. They had six in stock and five were already reserved. If you were to go in that Tuesday it would look like they weren't stocking it, but then by Friday they had more copies in stock.

Laura seems like a million years ago already but yeah, it's a fantastic package. It's basically a UCE without the big box and the big price.

And it indirectly led me to pick up what might my release of the year.

A really, really good Vincent Price bio is one of the extras on Laura and that sort of tipped me over the edge when I was debating Shout's Vincent Price Collection.

Niagara is a very nice disc too. I was a little let down by the film itself but I have no complaints at all about the disc.

Best Technicolor transfer though? That's tough. Some of the discs in the Hitchcock set are awfully good and - he said bringing things back on topic - Charade is no slouch either.

On the Criterion front, The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp has a remarkable Technicolor transfer. It's a beautiful upgrade of a great film.
