Just so I am clear, numerous "film buffs" find Goddard to be as cliche and sophomoric as you find Kurosawa.
Oh, damn! You're just asking for the "Bear Jew" to flash its claws!!!

Oh well, too late.

It's the closest thing you'll ever get to going to the movies.

I'm not going to have a urination contest with you. I just think as the days go by your film snob comments are getting more annoying.

I barely come to this thread anymore because of it and, as I pointed out, your love affair with GODARD (has my credibility risen?) could easily be attacked as being just as cliche as your attacks on Kurosawa.

And you dont have to say anything about GODARD because you have in other posts...and, well, its in your name...

What about them? Care to address what I said or do you prefer to avoid defending your hypocritical stance with petty comebacks and sarcastically unrelated comments about other films?

Or is Godard + (insert any even COOLER director here) > Kurosawa + (insert any even COOLER director here)?

I'm going to change my user name to LucasBay and then incessantly crack on anyone who likes Spielberg or Cameron...

Have I illustrated how silly you come off or are we still muddy?

You got point 7 right for sure, well I am not making comments on those who enjoy his movies but Godard himself. I have seen him so many times on TV (I am Fench so I grew up with Godard, Gabin, Truffeaut..all of French cinema Godard as always made me laugh in every interview I ever seen him in. You have to appreciate his talent but he is so full of himself But then again I suppose anyone with talent after a while probably are, just can't be help.

It's funny as I am in the opposite direction of you. As I grew up with so much French cinema, I want Criterion to release Kurosawa, Ozu, Mizoguchi all of Asian cinema which as become my love over the years and forget all of those French guys

Try a Star Wars or Avatar thread if you think people bicker in here

I like Godard better than Kurosawa (although I enjoy both) but I consider them both to be over discussed and represented both in film discussion and the CC.

I'm with you on Ozu and Mizoguchi, though. I quoted you earlier concerning the MoC and CC doublng and brought up Tokyo Sonata. If you like Ozu you should check it out.

Or they licensed the three Sternberg films from Universal (or is it Paramount?) long enough ago that they didn't license beyond DVD. If it's Universal, it's worth noting that they have yet to release a Blu from a Universal license (not counting Focus Features).

Well for Ozu I am waiting....they are releases being done in the next few months from BFI for Blu-ray. I am hoping they will be region free and I will be getting them, they have Tokyo Story, Late Spring (which is probably my favorite Ozu movie) and Early Summer. I caved in not long ago on Silent Ozu set wich cost me about $40. I figured the chances of this going to Blu-ray anytime soon is low so I bought the DVD

I just region modded my Oppo and ordered the MoC "M" which came in the mail yesterday and it works flawlessly.

I am itching to order the BFI Ozu's but I want to wait to make sure they aren't glitchy since they are dual releases.

Just an fyi in case you didn't know but the MoC line is mostly region free on Blu.

I did not know that about the MoC Blu-ray, thanks. They have amazing collection on DVD. I wish I wasn't so lazy and got myself setup with a region free player on DVD. The fact I never did as made limitation on the movies I could get.

BFI's dual releases consist of a separate blu-ray & DVD so I don't expect too many glitches because of that. Go check out the BFI stickied thread in the European section, if you don't already.

Their first dual-release, "Institute Benjamenta," has been pushed back a couple of weeks, though, due to an issue with the DVD.

But are they usually region free? Which is what worry me the most.

I just bought "M" yesterday on Blu-Ray. I am hoping it's going to be as awesome as I am hoping it to be. My expectations are very high for this film as it has been called by many people and film critics as one of the "best films of all time."
I am going to watch it tonight. Wish me luck!
It's a GREAT movie. It was the first film from the 30s I have seen and I was extremely impressed. I bought the blu ray as well and I'm happy with all the extras, but the one thing I was disappointed with is the picture. Not that the picture is bad, it's the best I have seen, but dam, it takes up half of the dam screen. I understand it's almost 80 years old, but it still is kind of underwhelming.

BFI's releases, for the most part, are Region-B locked. They have a few that are region-free, though. You should start reading the BFI reviews that pro-b does. I'm pretty sure he's covered most of their releases. That way, you'll be able to find out which ones are region-free and which ones aren't.

Here, I've done the work for you. Here are the BFI blu-ray releases reviewed by pro-b.

I was thinking Blow Out by De Palma, but this seems to be a better guess. Not a big fan of Goddard so I'll pass.

Are you upset that "M" is in the correct aspect ratio? You shouldn't have thrown away that old square tv for the fancy new widescreen one and then "M" would fill out more of the screen's real estate.

I checked the thread a few times here and at other sites and most of the talk centered around the films themselves and the clear CC esque cases. For some reason I assumed it was going to be a flipper like the HD DVD days.

Good news for me, though as I want to order all 3 whenever I cross them on Amazon's UK site.

You have the BFI Salo, though, right? Whats the quality like?
