Given that Criterion didn't include the original theatrical cut in either their LD or DVD editions, I'd be inclined to think they wouldn't include it in a Blu-ray edition. We can always hope, though.

I don't have the Second Sight 3-disc DVD, though I have an Umbrella (Australia) 2-disc edition that unfortunately doesn't include the theatrical cut. I only have the theatrical cut on a full-frame Japanese LD.

Yup. Sixteen feature films and only five (of the six most recent) are on Blu-ray (in the US). I suppose it's within the realm of possibility that Criterion might be able to license the Paramount titles -- Gallipoli, Witness, and The Truman Show (though Paramount's done this last themselves already) -- and maybe The Year of Living Dangerously from MGM, but I'd be inclined to think they'd be limited to just the six early Aussie films and shorts. Not that that wouldn't make a great set.

I just received the Warner Archive Blu-ray of Fearless. I'm looking forward to watching it, though I'm too busy until after the weekend.

Not one of his better films, but interesting nonetheless. The 10-year-old Home Vision DVD (still available from Amazon) also includes Weir's 1979 made for (Aussie) TV suspense thriller The Plumber.

The Cars That Ate Paris is entertaining, but it doesn't compare to some of his other movies. To be honest, while I was watching it I would occasionally think that the best part of the movie was the title.

I'm snowed in another 8 inches here oh joy...That flash sale would of been fun to do on a day like this oh well.

I May watch Battle of Algiers or Missing tonight.

OT: has anyone bought the Twilight Time Blu of Sexy Beast? I liked their release of The Driver so was thinking of buying that one too.

We got a bunch of snow here in NC too. I spent most of the afternoon shoveling our driveway so that my wife can go to work tomorrow. I am sort of glad that the flash sale wasn't today, because I would have been outside and might have missed some of the high demand titles.

Love Cars That Ate Paris! Very cool film. The Plumber is also pretty great.

When you put it like that, I suppose the Second Sight DVD and blu-ray are as definitive as it gets. I wish they'd included the theatrical version on the blu-ray for the sake of convenience but I realise how whiny and over-indulged that sounds! Living in the UK it's easy to develop an inferiority complex and assume US releases are always better. The Criterion editions of British films wipe the floor with their UK counterparts.

I've had the past two days off here in Atlanta, because of the snow storms. I watched my new Blu-rays of All Is Lost, The Counselor, and Walter Hill's The Warriors, but I also took advantage of a rare chance (rare here in Georgia) to put some ice grips on my running shoes and go for a long run. Since several normally-crowded roads around here were completely free of traffic, I enjoyed running down the middle of these roads as though I were a character in 28 Days Later. Most of the snow and ice melted this afternoon, though, so tomorrow will be business as usual.

Isn't the Warriors just an amazing movie on so many levels? I'm really amazed Hollywood hasn't tabbed it as their next remake. Seems over the last few years they've grabbed a decent # of movies and remade them. (Total Recall, Judge Dredd, Robocop etc).

Snow here as well. Watched four titles (two I've seen before). Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion (rewatch but first watch on blu) is just amazing. Beautiful restoration as well. Both sound and picture are top notch. Ivan's Childhood surprised me - I didn't love it as much as I thought I would and I would never go back to it for a repeat viewing. Gorgeous cinematographer as expected, though.

Wings of Desire I've seen before but I felt like something poetic and this obviously delivers. It isn't Wenders' best but it's a beautiful love letter to Berlin. La promesse was just amazingly well told. I loved the father/son dynamic and the actions taken by the son when he begins to see the light about his decisions. Well acted but the picture quality left a lot to be desired. There were several instances were pixel noise (white dots) crept their way in. There's actually one dot that stays near the center bottom of the screen throughout the entire film and it was a little bothersome. But ultimately it did not take away from this wonderful film that I would have never seen had it not been for Criterion putting it out there for us.

The Warriors is such a fun and otherworldly movie. When I watched the Blu-ray earlier today, it was my first time seeing the film in over a decade. It's great seeing all of the second-tier actors, like David Patrick Kelly (Dreamscape), Deborah Van Valkenburgh (Too Close For Comfort TV show), and Michael Beck (Megaforce), combine their efforts into a top-tier movie. James Remar (Dexter TV series) has probably fared the best out of those cast members.

The soundtrack is outstanding. It probably contributed to the somewhat-futuristic feel back in the day, but it just comes across well on its own terms now.

I watch it about once every 2 months, give or take. The setting is great, the score is great and the threat of ambush is present in over half the movie. The score frequently gets you ready for trouble and reminds me of Escape from New York (If my memory serves correct, I might be totally off base there) which was another excellent movie.

Another interesting Michael Beck movie is Battletruck. There is a double feature with the so horrible and hokey it's actually entertaining Deathsport featuring David Carradine. (He runs around for half the movie with a freaking clear plastic sword for a weapon for crying out loud!), not to mention the very obvious "whoops" stunt gone wrong that made the final cut.

I really need to get a re-watch in for this one. Since the film consists of 'days' in the narrative, I've thought of watching 1 day each day to complete the film. This would make it less of an endurance test and put focus on enjoying the film.
[Show spoiler]The scene where father and daughter determine they must leave the house behind only to end up back where they started blew my mind. Incredible!

Although, If I'm in the right mood I may just watch the film again all in one sitting.

If release day is tomorrow, (which I hope it is) hopefully they'll announce another Eclipse Series. I know they're DVD and they don't have all the extras and fancy packaging but damn... I love those sets.

Also, if they finally get The Life Aquatic upgraded, that'd please a lot of people, both the lovers who are waiting for it and the haters who are sick of hearing everyone ask for it each month!

I hope announcements are tomorrow. I suspect we may have to wait until Tuesday if not, since Monday is a holiday.

Is it, though? I'd assume President's Day to be among the more popular for people not having to go into work. Certainly moreso than Labor, Columbus, and Veterans Day at the end of the year.
