Hope so.

And on Amazon it only sells for like $5 more than 1/2 price so it's not really that expensive (it's a $40 MSRP DVD, not a $30 one).

Is anyone else ordering Persona direct from Crit Co? They currently have a better deal than Amazon.

Strangely enough, Sears.com has it for even cheaper...it is 26.99 plus .99 for shipping. They recently sent me a random $15 gift card, so I will be buying it there.

That's odd. I'm guessing Sears won't be stocking that one in-store.

I'll probably just get it from B&N's website, add some Kool aid and a 20% coupon = Tada!

I just ordered a handful of Warner Archives Collection film noir DVDs, including two Fritz Lang releases that will set well on my shelf next to M and Ministry of Fear.

While the City Sleeps (Fritz Lang)
Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (Fritz Lang)
The Window
Strangers on the Third Floor

I also ordered the Image Entertainment DVD of D.O.A. (1950). I loved watching this public domain movie on YouTube a short while back, and I want it on disc. It'll probably be a long while before it emerges on Blu-ray, if ever, unless Kino works on it.

My federal tax return came in the mail as well, so I'll be ready for Bergman's Persona next month.

As I wait for my "out for delivery" order from Tuesday's flash sale -- which includes a copy of Alfred Hitchcock's 'Foreign Correspondent' -- I'll share that the ebook version of Patrick McGilligan's Hitchcock bio 'Alfred Hitchcock: A Life in Darkness and Light' is on sale today for $3. I haven't read it yet so I can't recommend it but it's apparently mentioned in the 'Foreign Correspondent' essay. I thought someone here might be interested.

This is a link to the Kindle version, but it is also apparently available for the same price at iBooks, B&N, Google, etc. I've a copy and it's fairly lengthy if not substantial. I enjoyed the author's Altman bio 20+ years ago but haven't made it very far into his Nicholas Ray book.

Canada Next Criterion To Watch

I have decided that I need to be watching the films I bought last year before starting on any new purchases. I have gone back through my orders and found the ones I need to watch next.

Any suggestions on which one I should start with?

In alphabetical order:

3:10 To Yuma
Days of Heaven
Life Is Sweet
Ministry of Fear
Red Beard

I see DVD-only auctions for Fox and Foreign Correspondent are fetching around $15 on eBay.

These dual format releases almost pay for themselves.

Ministry of Fear, definitely. It's a great-looking black-and-white Blu-ray that brings out the best in Fritz Lang's use of shadows.

Really?? Just the DVD in a generic case or something? Never thought of that...

Yeah, he is just such an incedible filmmaker, with an amazing style. Love his films!

Props to Criterion for making such a superb edition available to us right now, though!
Yeah, all the interviews were amazing, really loved the Tangerine Dream feature. And you are correct, the film looked incredible, Criterion really can do things right!

I have no plans for the day so I am going to do a Malick Marathon. Badlands, Days Of Heaven and The Thin Red Line. I just need to go to the store and get a few 2 liters of Mountain Dew to aid in watching.

TOUKI BOUKI was okay I thought, but will need to see it again to get a better perspective, and TRANCES was interesting but unless you're really into esoteric ethnic Middle-Eastern music some of the performance sequences will seem to go on way too long -- the interviews and conversations are the best parts. REDES was worth seeing and had some nice photography but was a bit heavy-handed.

Certainly looking forward to volume 2 in the set (and hope it contains the Egyptian titles they've restored for the project -- my home theatre décor will explain this).
Thanks for the briefs on the other films in the collection, I really look forward to expanding into more country's films. And very much looking forward to what could be in the second volume as well. I'll be sure to post as I watch these, Im thinkign of moving them to the head of the line when they arrive.

Still have yet to see Badlands and Days of Heaven. Almost did the blind buy on Badlands. Would love to hear your thoughts when done.

Yeah... not a bad idea to spread them out. I tend to watch in bunches and then get burned out.
