Just ordered Seconds and paired it with Scarlet Street to get free shipping. Pretty excited for both!

And that amounts to a whopping $4.24 per film (on both Blu-ray and DVD) plus free bonus features and a 100-page hardcover book! Great deal!

I thought I was lucky to get the Zatoichi set at $112.50 on Criterion's flash sale (and it really amounted to pretty close to the same, since I had free shipping and especially no sales tax, which would put the Amazon price higher than what I paid from Criterion).

I have to agree with this. Late Spring is the better movie, and it's shorter.

Either that or Tokyo Twilight (which is on Hulu).

Edit: although since you're already interested in Ozu (i.e. you don't need to be convinced to explore his work), length shouldn't be a concern

Edit 2: We need more Ozu on BD!

Oh and it's a great film so you'll definitely be watching it more than once, eventually. No need to select a subtitle track thinking it will be the only version of the subtitles you'll ever see.
Thank you. I had to read parts of Macbeth in school. That Shakespearean dialogue almost killed me haha. Once you knew what his words meant, it was a great read. But "breaking the code" was a nightmare. So I guess I'll start with the Richie translation indeed. And when I know this film better, I'll try the Hoaglund version.

I don't want this to come across as a criticism but I feel that this is a 2-way street.
Depending on how you look at it, it is a 2-way street. First your parents care for you, feed you, get you schooled and supply medical care when you are young. When they get old, it might be good to repay some of that if you can. In some cultures (and even in our culture decades ago) caring for your parents, and even having them live with you could be a common thing.
I'm sure not going to tell anyone else how to deal with their parents though. It's a personal decision. All families are different. I will say that it's great to look back after your parents are gone and have no regrets.

My wife and I don't have kids. Our cars are both fuel efficient and paid for. We both work and have good paying jobs. We have very minor credit debt (I'd say under $1,000 total) We overpay on our mortgage each month. I don't really have any other money sinks in my life so I take my extra money each month and put it in savings. When I want something, there's usually extra money in the budget for "fun" stuff as well.

For any fans of Lars von Trier (Antichrist, Breaking the Waves), his newest film, Nymphomaniac: Volume 1, has hit Video On Demand retailers today.

I just watched it and I truly hated it. I found the entire thing to be an overly pretentious and unrewarding experience that relies too much on sex and forced connections in order to create an unnaturally flowing story. The entire thing was laughable and a huge downstep from both Antichrist and Melancholia, in my opinion. In fact, I couldn't wait for it to end.

Still, I figured I'd pass the news along.

$10 to rent online up here. For the first time whilst using Sony Entertainment Network I have had to enter my DOB to continue on the page

Right now I have better things to spend $10 on. Lars will have to wait.

I have only watched Dogville from him, which I was pleasantly surprised with. As for the rest, can't say he fills me with excitement

I really hoped to like Dancer in the Dark, but the musical aspect of it killed it for me. It was so ridiculous.

I still have Dogville on DVD to watch, so maybe in the upcoming days I will finally watch it.
