I've hung back though, spent $100 last week at Deep Discount, and 10 minutes ago I got an email from DVD Planet letting me know I did not complete my purchase and giving me $5 off I'll sleep on the purchase and decide tomorrow.

I did see their loyalty program, 1 point per $1 spent, 200 points gives you $5 so it is not much of a program, especially when compared to Criterion which is 10% (1 point per $1, 500 points giving you $50)
Yeah, a couple of summers ago they had a big Criterion sale and they got all the money I was planning to spend with B&N that July. Glad to hear the S&H to Canada isn't too bad, either. I'm more likely to spend $25 now and then there whereas I usually wait for sales at Criterion.com, so it adds up a bit faster than my Criterion reward does. Always nice to have options, in any case.

Yeah $7 base then $2 a film. More than the $4 then $2 from B&N but B&N add tax, neither DVDPlanet and DeepDiscount, who I used last, did.

DVDPlanet/ImportCDs/DeepDiscount have the worst shipping I've ever seen. I literally get packages mailed post from China in less time.

They ship out of Kentucky now and it takes on average 10 days or more PER SHIPMENT to get packages delivered to West Virginia.... for those of you outside the US or in the US and think we're still part of Virginia (this seriously happens almost daily) we're the next state over and it's not like we're that large!

I could literally walk to their center, pick my item up and walk home in less time. DHL absolutely is terrible and I wish they'd switch to UPS/FedEx or just 100% USPS since they handle all final deliveries anyway.

To be honest, I am never in a rush to receive the goods, as long as they arrive in good condition I'm happy.

I'm slowly but surely making my peace with slow shipping.

I totally understand why it bugs people (and on occasion it still bugs me) but given how long stuff usually sits unopened on my shelf I don't look at shipping delays of a week or three as the end of the world anymore.

Also, shipping outside of the US is always at least 5 working days. Add on the fact that Canada does not have Saturday delivers (still can't get used to this even after living here over a year now) I don't have high expectations when it comes to delivery.

The funny thing is, people outside the US (Where DHL still has a market) talk about getting their packages days faster than US customers.

It blows my mind.

Who uses DHL to deliver? I don't think I've had a parcel from them. I know that my DeepDiscount is coming via USPS and others are actually delivered to my door by Canada Post. Come to think of it, Canada Post, UPS and Purolator are the only delivery vans I've seen

I'm oddly tempted to delete all of my posts in this thread to set the count back by a considerable margin. I went overboard last year before the novelty of this site wore off.

I'd better leave the posts alone, though.

Tomorrow is Riot in Cell Block 11 day for me.

I just finished watching Jonathan Glazer's first film, Sexy Beast, for the first time, and I cannot believe that it took me so long to get around to watching it. I'm impressed.

DHL carries to a PO hub for those vendors. That's where the bulk of the delays originate. Back when DD/Import/DVDP were shipping out of CA, it was the norm to have packages sit in their Compton CA hub for 5-6 days on end. Now, since the operation has moved to Kentucky, replace Compton with Hebron KY.

My last order sat at that warehouse for a shorter period, 4 working days but then it took them 4 more days to get it 16 miles to Cincinnati.

I must pay more attention to the label on my parcels from now on.

Now, as I did not place my order with DVDPlanet yesterday when I was checking out the total price, they sent me a $5 voucher a few hours I left the items in my Basket. Should I go take the plunge

If you aren't in a hurry? Why not. If you go in knowing there is a chance on a multi-week delivery time table and are OK with that, go with whoever you can get the best deal. While their shipping time is HORRIBLE, I've never had any problems with canceled orders, damaged items etc.

Didn't see this posted already but apologies if I overlooked it: Best Buy has a bunch of Criterion BDs at $19.99: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/promo/sa...titles-121842?
