I just finished watching Salò and it was surprisingly not as bad as I had imagined.

I avoided the film for almost a couple of years because I was worried about being nauseous throughout it. Well, I was in the mood to watch it tonight and it didn't really bother me at all. The thing I was most worried about was the ingestion of feces, but after reading that the replicas were made from chocolate pudding and a marmalade, I was not as bothered.

It's a decent political film for sure. My only complaint is that as the film progressed, I grew less and less interested. I actually found it boring at a few times.

Overall, it was fine. I'm certainly glad to live in a democracy.

Thanks, that was entertaining. Did I miss the reference to a 'new' relationship in the article, though?
The Supplier Profile at the end mentions that Costco offers 19 Criterion titles. What? Where are they? The several Costco's I frequent in the Bay Area usually have a crap selection of BRD's, although I do find some nice bargains [esp digibooks].

They have some nice stock as of today, but looks like they may be another outlet to grab a few titles from in the future. They usually sell all titles at $19.99, so its a pretty nice deal. Plus for all you case OCD members, you can find one that is mint enough for you...

That's quite a streak of films you've got going. You should watch Begotten next.

I'm trying to go through my unwatched Criterions to see what ones I like and dislike.

RE: Begotten - I've heard of that one. I think I've seen a clip on YouTube. It looks really messed up.

In film class in college we were to bring in a clip from a favorite movie. Some dude brought in Begotten and upset the entire class.

Oh God. I can believe it.

It honestly seems like a rather disturbing movie. I wonder what other films that guy enjoys.

It's one that I'd like to see sometime, because I liked Merhige's Shadow of the Vampire so much. But I confess that I'm in no great hurry to see it.

Good job. Too bad we already knew these were coming, although that didn't help me figure out the clue. I would have liked a total surprise.

I hate asking, but I haven't seen these films. Could you explain the clue?

Hellman's is a brand of mayonnaise, and the hat suggests that it is his Westerns.

Not really about the films themselves per se:

Hellmans is a brand of mayo. Monte Hellman is the director. The 10-gallon hat connotes westerns. Therefore we get Hellman's two western films The Shooting & Ride the Whirlwind.

And Hellman's Facebook page confirmed this a few months ago saying that Criterion was working on these releases.
