Ive just started using them as Amazon was pricey - I think they have a sale on atm so make most of it haha!

I got a few bargains too !

My packaging pictures are awful compared to yours and Chris @ criterionforum due to either light reflections (the worst being when picturing the inside of a steelbook) or non-neutral background.

But I will succeed !

It's too bad Criterion weren't able to Nuits Rouge in their release of Judex like the MOC DVD. Hopefully there is more Franju to come, because Eyes Without A Face is one of my favorite discoveries through Criterion. It would be very cool if they could release the L'homme sans visage miniseries. I feel like it's been a while since they've done one of those.

Default Quick Question

Hey I have a quick question. How long after reaching the 500 points on Criterions Site does it take to get the $50 off, and can that $50 be used during a flash sale. The reason I am asking, is because I was able to get a few titles with the $8 off recently so for about a net of $12 saving (below 50% price). And I won't be able to do much for the 50% B&N sale since there are none nearby. So I figured if the $50 off can be used immediately and during the flash sale, I am probably better off just returning the titles I recently purchased and waiting for Criterions sale, that way I can get $50 opposed to $12. Thank you in advance.

I got my code as soon as my order, which would put me over 500, shipped and i used mine on the flash sale

My daughter picked-up the following Criterions at Costco for me:
Foreign Correspondent
The Life Aquatic
Fantastic Mr. Fox
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

All were 19.99 which is a steal for the last title.

I got mine as soon as the transaction processed. I placed the order that got me over 500, then placed an order using the $50 in a span of about 5 mins.

Looks as if StudioCanal has bumped up release date of their Tati Box. Possibly inclination of forthcoming Criterion soon?

A double dose of Orpheus tonight on TCM:
Black Orpheus
Orpheus

I would love for the whole Cocteau Orphic Trilogy to be on Blu.

TCM is releasing Ministry of Fear this July as part of their "Dark Crimes, Film Noir Thrillers (Volume 2) set. So if you haven't already purchased Ministry of Fear on CC blu-ray then you can get it in glorious 480 along with You and Me, Hollywood Story and Undertow.

Watched a couple criterions in the last two days--the Killing which was awesome-so economical and good 4.5/5 and Riot in Cell Block 11--also short but drags and not nearly as good 2/5. What say you?

I'll probably buy this for the other three movies, although I already own and love the Criterion Blu-ray of Ministry of Fear.

I own the first Dark Crimes collection set that includes The Glass Key, The Phantom Lady, and The Blue Dahlia.

I sort of feel as if the big box set of November will be a Harold Lloyd set instead.

Almost all the way through My Dinner With Andre and wow... one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It's challenging Breathless for worst CC release.

Thankfully I recorded it off TCM and didn't spend money on it. I'm struggling to make it through to the end, hopefully I can finish up the last little bit tomorrow after work.

And for anyone who is wondering why I hated it, the character of Andre is the most boring, "Searching for meaning" character I've ever seen. I imagine him as the type of character that thinks everything has a deeper meaning and nothing can be taken at face value. If there were an art gallery opening, he would be there to lecture the first time goers about how you have to look beyond the strokes that were painted into the strokes that weren't painted; and how the use of light colors shows the artists inner melon-collie etc. IE you'd smack him if you were there.

This may sound blasphemous on these forums, but I think one of the tradeoffs of being in the blu era for Criterion is the left field choices like these seem to have been neglected, presumably because of the prohibitive cost or of not being up to blu-ray standards. I'd have no problem with Criterion releasing the occasionally DVD-only set if it meant more of the Eclipse/miniseries type thing came out. But when you think of the more inspired intra-medium Criterion choices like Fishing With John, Beastie Boys anthology or even Golden Age of TV set, I can't see those type of things getting released anymore. And something like Rivette's Out 1 seemed to be much more of a possibility a few years ago than it does now, at least from the CC.

But don't get me wrong, I love Criterion's recent output as much as the next person here. Going off Pro-B's review, their release of ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS (which I was thinking yesterday, may be the greatest American film ever made in my mind) could very well end up being the best release of the year.
