That is why I am trying my best to keep away from this sale. B&N should have a buy 2 get 1 free in a couple days hopefully.

I checked my account on their website, and the status is not listed as "backorder" but as "processing." I'm assuming it has said that all along, but this is the first time I've checked, so I can't be sure.

I thought about canceling and ordering elsewhere, but I guess I'll hold off for now. It kind of irks me, though, that they advertised that preorder deal for Stagecoach and then immediately, with the 25% sale, dropped the price another dollar or so.

Whatever. I'm just not going to buy from Deep Discount anymore. I was tempted with this sale, but screw it. I'd rather spend a few more dollars elsewhere.

I ordered from Deep Discount once and only once. After I had to wait an obscene amount of time before I received my film, I decided I would never order from that company again. They lost my business.

One cannot deny that DUEL is a great film. It's my favorite Spielberg and I usually re-watch it every summer.

BTW- Does anyone really believe "Jon Mulvaney" exists? I've heard rumors on cf.org that "Jon Mulvaney" = the Criterion employee who happened to read you email.

Duel is also one of my Spielberg favorites. As I said before Spielberg's early, films were some of his very best.

Thanks for the heads up jimonee! Hopefully I'll be as lucky as you.

Sorry Knapsack, I mis-spoke. I rec'd an email saying my discs were back-ordered, but my order just says 'open' like yours. DDD is definately a retailer you have to factor in so-so to poor customer service when you order, unfortunately.

Well, of course, unless one of us ever meets Mr. Mulvaney we can never really know. I like to think of him as a current employee of Criterion, but the name could very well just be a catch-all term for their customer service. Maybe, he was an employee at one... maybe, he wasn't. I don't suppose it really matters, though. Surely, someone on here from NY could just go up to the fifth floor of their building and find out for us.

Seeing that 4 of their next 5 releases are Region B, I am starting to consider purchasing a region-free player. I need to have Vengeance Is Mine on blu-ray. While I think there is a chance Criterion might release this in the next year or two, they've got so much on plate I have a feeling it isn't high on their priority list.
I vastly prefer Eureka's handling of the format over Criterion's and I absolutely love each and every title they have released. The devil is in the details and that's where the MoC series shines over Criterion. They openly support the format, have stated that newer BD titles will likely be BD only (save for the rare mega title, aka Metropolis), often choose much better photo stills and artwork for the covers (IMO), and renumbered every title for the Blu collection. All small details that do not necessarily change the final product but make me appreciate them a little more than Criterion when comparing the two.

And I would say anyone in this thread who buys all of the Criterion titles are selling themselves short by not having a region free player to take advantage of the region B locked MoC titles, which looks to be quite a few now with not yet released titles like VIM, TPDOG, Fantatstic Planet, and more than likely Metropolis...

I love Criterion, though. And in general I applaud them for everything they do...this is more of a comparison of the two companies to be discussed among more die hards fans of cinema and both companies.

What Criterion's do you guys think are the best representitives of what Criterion Collection is all about?

I only have two CC's myself, Kagemusha and Pierrot le Fou, so i'm still a newbie when it comes to CC.

But is MoC ever going to release in the U.S.?

Definately Armageddon. Michael Bay explosions is what Criterion Collection is all about.

I have to say, Transformers 2 is the greatest film ever made, so I can see this.

You know it. I cannot wait to hear the stimulating special guest commentary by Megan Fox for the Criterion Collection version of Transformers 2.

Nope. They are a UK company, which is why its worth considering getting a region free player to cover all the bases, however, most of their blu titles are region free. The ones that aren't are because they had no choice.

I'd suggest picking up a title or two that are region free to test the waters. All of the currently released titles are region free except M (though this will change soon with many of their not yet released titles being region locked). I highly recommend ANY of the titles save Soul Power, M, and For All Mankind mainly because they are easily available in the states. Tokyo Sonata is of my favorite films of all time so I'd say thats a good place to start, but the silents are a must for die hard cinema lovers. Both City Girl and Sunrise are stellar releases. Mad Detective is a great thriller/murder mystery by one of my fav HK directors To and the MoC edition is approved by him and has one of the best essays on any film I have ever read.

Basically, if you like Criterion you will like MoC as they are the UK equivalent.

Yeah and the extra 10 minutes of bonus IMAX footage of nothing but explosions.
