She was directing A Streetcar Named Desire with Cate Blanchett in Brooklyn while I was living in New York so BAM Rose Cinemas showed a bunch of her stuff she did with Bergman, and she appeared for a Q&A after Cries And Whispers where I had this taken.
Listening to her talk about her craft was incredible, and she was also a very sweet woman.
It was a wonderful afternoon.

Just received my first digipack (Il Sorpasso).
Well, it surely is impresive as packaging, but the thing I don't like is that it's inconsistent with the others, and that it's surely easy to damage as the time goes by!

By the way, although i saw this film in the end of May and loved it, I will watch it again on August 15th!

Amen to that - I was lucky enough to see it in the cinema a few years ago and loved its tone and atmosphere - it really brings across the sweltering heat of a city in the summer.

I rented Grizzly Man and the one about the caves - they were both fascinating and moving and I loved his voiceovers.

[Show spoiler]The scene in Grizzly Man where Herhog listens to the tape and then tells the woman to never listen to it was extraordinary, I have shivers running up and down my spine just thinking about it. The whole tone changes at that point and you realise you are in the presence of something amazing.

Over at Rotten Tomatoes we used to have one week in the year that everyone used real photos of themselves as avatar. We also had 'Troll Day' when our avatars would contain trolls.

Yeah, I forgot about Moonstruck. Cage is great a playing characters who aren't too bright. I really can't think of another actor who would have been better in Raising Arizona.

Sorry, but that Aug. 15 reference went right over my head. Is there a significance to that date in relation to the film? (I haven't yet seen Il Sorpasso). Maybe I just need another coffee....

I've almost upgraded all of the Criterion DVDs from my old collection, but am sort of waiting for when I'm in a specific mood to see Godard's Weekend or Malle's Black Moon again. *shudders*

I don't necessarily know how the Studio Canal PLF compares to the Criterion because I haven't seen the latter, but I think the transfer for Godard's Weekend is every bit as good as the transfer for The Red Shoes. It is, in fact, my fav classic color transfer from Criterion.

another problem is the old digipacks like salo had these massive booklets.. the new ones have all these thin paper booklets. the DVDs just waste a massive amount of space. im fine with the 3 disc criterion cases and the dual format cases.

i would love if criterion would offer replacement cases and covers for all the "new" digipack releases. expect the huge ones with the books. they are kinda cool

The film's plot takes place on August 15th and 16th.
It's a national holiday in Italy on the 15th (and in Greece too where I live, although for different reasons I think)
(the film starts showing that it's a national holiday and everything is closed. i had a hunch that it was August 15th so i looked it up)

I like watching films on the anniversary day their plot is about (if they refer to a specific date)..
(now that i mention it, it would be interesting to start a thread on films that take place on a specific day (or 2). Although I only know Titanic and Il Sorpasso. I can't think of anything else)

Well, i meant the whole plot of a movie to take place in one day (not just a period)..
I haven't seen the others, but though some part of Pearl Harbor takes place in one day, the rest takes place in a lot of days/months..
