It would be nice to get some nice BLU editions form Warner Bros for Private Benjamin, Protocol, and even Swing Shift - even with the stormy work relationship she and Demme had while making the film. I read her autobiography and she spoke well of the film and the circumstances on making it. I think it would be cool if they came together and did some interviews and maybe Demme could also include his version of the film which I think according to IMDB / WIki forgot where I read it but I think the running times are the same. I still have my VHS and Laserdisc of Swing Shift because in the "full frame" version Ed Harris goes commando under his towel at the start of the film.

Huge Goldie fan here.... but Shampoo has so many great characters and some great dialogue Hal Ashby you can't go wrong.
My first job when I was 17 was at a movie theatre in Westwood. The film playing was Private Benjamin. She came by quite often, very nice woman. Years later I was walking around Westwood and ran into her...she remembered me. I wish Warner would at least release Private Benjamin on Blu ray and perhaps interview her.

One of these titles would be welcome:

A Matter of Life and Death
One, Two, Three
A Man For All Seasons
Ken Russell's "The Devils"

all have been rumored at one time and "AMOLAD" was just released in France

when doing the aforementioned research, I sadly noted that nearly all of the films that are on current posters' wishlists were also on their wishlists one year ago. that is, to quote Mark Renton, "a shite state of affairs."

Criterion got my back for The Vanishing this year, so I'm a happy camper.

I would, of course, love to see In a Lonely Place released. In fact, I just reread the novel a week ago and was thinking about what a great extra it would make. Carnival of Souls, Stray Dog, and Elevator to the Gallows would also be high on my list. Other titles that I would love to see are Ghost World and His Girl Friday, although I don't know who holds the rights on that last one.

That would have been so cool to bump into her like that. Such cool stories.

Columbia/Sony have the best materials on His Girl Friday. It was originally a Columbia production -- but the film has been in the public domain since 1968 (by mistake the copyright was not renewed). If Criterion wanted to release this title they would surely work with Sony. The situation is similar to that of Charade; that film is public domain for a similar reason, but Criterion licensed the movie from original studio Universal anyway to get access to the best transfer (and to maintain a good relationship with Universal).

Le Samourai, please Le Samourai. I also really want The Tenant and Mulholland Drive, but since both Macbeth and Eraserhead are being released next month, I kind of doubt that we'll see a Polanski or a Lynch title so soon.

I too would love to see Tootsie one of the greatest comedies ever made.

Thanks for the information. That is great news! I just rewatched my His Girl Friday dvd last week, and it made me remember just how much I love the movie. I would love to see it get a blu release.

It was a great time, much more simple and less complicated. I'm pretty sure if you ever saw her she would be as kind and gracious as she was back then.

There's usually a box set and some big-name titles for your holiday gift-giving and/or receiving pleasure released in November. I'm hoping the box is the Wenders set this time, but I assume it will be Ray's Apu Trilogy which, you know, wouldn't be such a bad thing. Maybe Chaplin's The Kid as well?

Or for me personally last year's November lineup of City Lights, Tokyo Story, and Frances Ha.
