Picked up Eraserhead (finally) and Terry Gilliam's Brazil. I gave my other copy to a friend. She had never seen it and loved it so much that I let her have it.

I quickly look at the picture comparisons and then head out. I can't stand a black background. I've also noticed that criterionforum.org seems to be slow in getting reviews up - they'll have packaging photos up weeks in advance but reviews....:crickets:

A quick glance makes me believe that it is because it isn't one single person reviewing every Criterion disc. While there seems to be one writer that does the majority of them, two of the most recent seven reviews were written by other reviewers.

I just got three for now:

Eraserhead
The Innocents
Macbeth

I'll probably purchase more during the B&N 50% off sale in November when more titles are available like La Dolce Vita.

Picked up

- Eraserhead
- Nashville
- Foreign Correspondent

I went to check my order confirmation email, saw I also got a second email from Criterion and it was a $50 loyalty gift certificate. Sweet!

Think I might pre-order the Jaques Tati box with that. Or a couple of Japanese Eclipse sets.

I've decided that I really want Macbeth, because it stars Francesca Annis (Dune, Krull). This title can wait until the Barnes & Noble sale, though.

I haven't seen too many adaptations of Macbeth, but many claim that Polanski's version is one of the definitive versions of the story. I myself prefer Throne of Blood, but Polanski's is far more realistic in terms of the fighting.

I just scan for all of the adjectives and superlatives in the review... I, too, think that their layout needs some work.

I mentioned before that I like that CF has many DVD reviews, but yes, they are slow and some necessary ones seem to never come.

After the expenditures on BDs I've been making lately (including the Three Colors set), I couldn't really go all out. So, I settled for just two:

The Innocents

Pandora's Box

I've actually never seen The Innocents. But it's supposed to be great, and who doesn't love Deborah Kerr? Pandora's Box will be an upgrade for me. Such an amazing film.

Not exactly Criterion related but after wanting to buy Macbeth too, a few weeks ago I caught Henry V (1989) on the tube and couldn't take my eyes off the screen until the movie ended. I own the out of print DVD and have seen this picture several times. This Kenneth Branagh film ranks very high in terms of adaptation and realism for a Shakespeare-based story. It would be an awesome fit in the Criterion Collection.

Apparently my mother ordered me a Criterion for Christmas a few years ago because she got the flash email. She just called and told me to order what I wanted (within reason) and she would give them to me for my birthday (Dec 23) and Christmas. Mom rules.

I'm thinking along the same lines. I really want Red River and Picnic at Hanging Rock, but because of the packaging I'd like to be able to physically pick out my copies and not risk damage during shipping. Plus, the B&N coupons will help me save even more.

If you both have accounts at Criterion with loyalty points, you can merge them. My wife bought me some stuff a few years ago, and after she gave them to me Criterion was able to add the loyalty points she had earned to my account!
