I know Woody doesn't believe in participating in extras but I don't see him declining a release over them. Like most any filmmaker he wants his films on video. It's another way he can provide for his kids.

These would be incredible on Criterion:

Deconstructing Harry
Another Woman
Interiors
Stardust Memories
Twilight Time supposedly has the second, third, and fourth of those, along with all of the other Allen films originally released by United Artists and Orion Pictures (except for the four that MGM has already released).

I'd agree, except that Fox has been licensing films to Criterion lately (All That Jazz and My Darling Clementine come to mind).

Summary of the Wexner 2014 conference
  • The Apu Trilogy (1955-1959, Satyajit Ray) will be released both theatrically and on DVD and Blu-ray in 2015.
  • A Brighter Summer Day (1991, Edward Yang) is still in the works. The restoration and the extras are still being worked on.
  • The Koker Trilogy (1987-1994, Abbas Kiarostami) is in the works.
  • The Soft Skin (1964, François Truffaut) is coming soon.
  • An artwork book of Criterion designs will be released on November 28, 2014.
  • There will be more Warner Bros. titles in the future, with some titles potentially coming from Pre-Code Hollywood.
  • There will be more Wes Anderson films in The Criterion Collection (Moonrise Kingdom (2012) seems to be the most likely title).
  • There will be more Krzysztof Kieslowski films in The Criterion Collection (A restored version of Blind Chance was shown at Cannes 2014).
  • There will be more David Lynch films in The Criterion Collection.
  • There will be more Terrence Malick films in The Criterion Collection (The New World seems to be the most likely title as it coincidences with the announcement of future Warner Bros. titles).
  • There will be more Pier Paolo Pasolini films in The Criterion Collection.
  • There will be more Victor Erice films in The Criterion Collection.

It was in reference to their Warner Bros. discussion. She was talking about how Malick wants Criterion to get a title from them, so... Yeah, it's more than likely The New World.

He may take the cash, but I think he's been pretty clear that he thinks the only proper way to see any film is at the cinema.

I'd gladly double-dip for a Criterion Collection Blu-ray of The New World.

Part of me wishes, however, that Criterion would tackle To the Wonder, so that the movie could get a 50GB disc release on these shores. It's such an underrated movie that deserves the best that the Blu-ray format has to offer.

Not in so many words, but it definitely sounds like Criterion is doing their own resto and won't be using the WCF resto; which makes it much more likely that it's a standalone candidate.

Agreed on both counts.

But the only cut of The New World I've seen is the one on the Blu, and I constantly hear how much better the other two cuts are. I'm really itching to see whichever cut Malick prefers.

Some great news, with Malick obviously being what I'm most excited about. Always some great intel, but I wish someone would ask just once about Bela Tarr.

As for the David Lynch hint, I'd gladly double dip for a Criterion Collection Blu-ray of Dune as well.

How can they when they are too busy asking why Michael Bay is in The Criterion Collection?

I would love to see that screenplay as well, I was very disappointed when Searchlight only released an outline/summary for their For Your Consideration campaign a few years ago.

Outside of Mulholland Drive what would be the most likely Criterion release? I would personally love a blu-ray upgrade of The Elephant Man or The Straight Story, the latter of which is probably the most under-appreciated film in Lynch's catalogue.
