yeah, it all comes down to the stores and the employees and what they will do. Most of my locations are nice and I am able to use a coupon per visit.

Do you already own Macbeth, Rosemary's Baby, or Repulsion? Cul-de-Sac is good, personally I'd rank it behind Repulsion and Macbeth, and above Rosemary's Baby. Tess is my blind buy this sale, based on how much I enjoyed the Thomas Hardy novel, so I really can't comment on it yet.

Made my B&N run earlier today on my lunch hour.

My Darling Clementine
La Dolce Vita
The Vanishing
The Shooting/Ride in the Whirlwind

Lord of the Flies

Grabbed the 4 recent/new releases I wanted, with an older release on my wish list that I hadn't yet purchased. It's funny, I went in with the intention to buy either Pale Flower or Purple Noon (2 other titles on my wish list), but at the last minute decided on Lord of the Flies instead, even though both of those tites were there in stock... smh

Will be going back next week for It Happened One Night and possibly another wish list title or two.

I own all the Polanski Criterions besides those two.

Tess and Macbeth were the only two I didn't have, which was rectified this morning.

Can you afford both? Also, of the Polanski films, do you prefer his pyschological experiments, or do you prefer his more dramatic stuff?

My Polanski Criterion blus would be ranked something like this...

1. Rosemary's Baby
2. Repulsion
3. Macbeth
4. Tess
5. Cul De Sac

Of the 5, the only 2 I had seen prior to purchasing were Rosemary's Baby and Repulsion.

Cul De Sac is the worst Polanski I've seen. Tess is almost on par with Rosemary's Baby for me.

Picked up:
-Secret Sunshine
-Modern Times
-Insomnia

I did something I'd never done before and went to the store with money for three but having only decided on the first two. Insomnia eventually won out of the titles I was considering, but appropriately I wasn't even considering it before I walked in.

The sale began last year on November 12th, when I bought Broadcast News and started my spiral into the world of Criterion. My collection is fifty-eight titles strong as of this writing, which applying to an average MSRP/week is a little bit horrifying.

I expected Bastards from Criterion but I don't think it's coming (in the meantime the UK Blu is great). 35 Shots is my favourite too. The Nightshift scene makes me melt just thinking about it.

I liked them both but wasn't really wowed by either one of them. I think I would give Cul de Sac the edge on the strengths of Donald Pleasence and the black-and-white cinematography.

Is there some sort of script that will scan the net for 'not sure if serious' memes and then cycle through them randomly?

Cause that could be useful sometimes.

Just to complicate matters for those considering picking up their first Ray during the sale, I had the opposite reaction. Saw Charulata on Hulu first and immediately blind bought The Music Room. Absolutely loved The Music Room (my favorite of the three), so I blind bought The Big City and was disappointed (although there are some great scenes). I will certainly revisit it, but it was my least favorite of the three.

Really excited about the Apu Trilogy rumors/confirmation.

I didn't say how much better Cul-de-Sac was, now did I? I think it's just slightly more enjoyable for me. To be honest, my favourite Polanski isn't even a Criterion release, Chinatown. Also, it's one of Ira Levin's weaker novels, but that's just me. I prefered Stepford Wives and The Boys from Brazil.

Aesthetically beautiful. Fantastic score. Brilliant dialogue. Engrossing story. Very well acted. And, of course, Polanski's direction.

Certainly, one of the best experiences in my movie watching career. I think I was smiling throughout the entire three hours. Well, when I wasn't tearing up. Depressing in parts, and yet very life affirming!

the love definitely seems to be spread equally. I might have already tried a blind buy of one of them but outside of Pather Panchali, there seems to be no clear cut 'best' film of his.

I'll be getting all 3 in the next month or so.. at B&N or elsewhere.

I watched House last year during my yearly October horror movie marathon. I got nothing from it and really didn't care for it at all. Now, a year later, I'm seriously considering buying it during the sale. What's going on? Is it time for another try? Is my memory falsely telling me I misconstrued genius for ridiculousness?

Using the sale this time to get mostly past releases that I've had my eye on for a while, but haven't pulled the trigger for whatever reason. Also limiting it to five. So far I've decided on:
Red Desert
In the Mood for Love
City Lights
All that Heaven Allows

I have no idea for the fifth title. Suggestions? I love when you guys suggest things, always leads me down an interesting road.

I'm thinking about getting Medium Cool. The relatively recent discussion here on the BBS Story films piqued my interest in revisiting that era so it seems like a logical choice. Any thoughts on the film?
