I saw a bunch of plastic case versions and just one digipak. I got the digipak because it was the last one and I see it as a limited edition.

At the B&N I went to, there was a standard clear case for The Hidden Fortress instead of the original digipak, so I guess that one has been changed. And, if I'm remembering correctly, it's still dual-format.

It was always two discs in one keep case. No digipak release.

Wow... the Documentary should be required viewing by ANYONE who has this set... along with RKO 281... excellent documentary

I wish that Criterion would release The Complete Mr. Arkadin on blu. And if we (I) are bringing up movies I wish they would release, I am voting for the 3 Doctor Mabuse films.

I saw a Hidden Fortress plastic as well. Was just kind of curious to me, and wondered if anyone else had noticed. Strange I didn't see anything on the Criterion site... though maybe not that strange. Am glad I got the digipack on Foreign Correspondent. Thanks for the info all...

I was thinking of getting The Vanishing. I have no idea if they are at all similar (as I only read the synopses on here in order to avoid even the tiniest spoiler), but in case there are any similarities, I really really enjoyed Tell No One.

Other recommendations based on my collection would also be appreciated. I already purchased Blue Is the Warmest Color and I only have enough left on my GC for one more film so I'm trying to very particular about what I select. I'm also trying to stay more with the 'safer' Criterions for that reason.

I've had my BD of Vivre Sa Vie for a while now, but I've forgotten to ask: does anyone else's copy not remember where you left off? Luckily the film is broken up into small tableaux, so it's not that annoying, but I was just wondering if this was the same for everyone.

I'm pretty sure that's the only way Hidden Fortress has ever been made.

Agree..watched Seconds a few nights ago. Great performance and an excellent movie. Always holds up with me on every re-watch.

Ordered My Darling Clementine and Red River today. That's going to be all for this sale.

Whoever posted that Vampyr was going OOP, thanks a lot. My B&N had two copies so I picked one up.

There is debate on whether this is truly going out of print, or just temporarily going out of print ahead of a blu upgrade and/or packaging streamlining (no more book?), but better safe than sorry especially at a good price.

Which is one of the reasons why I love CC.

Just a few titles I've been browsing and found interesting.

Pale Flower (I like Kurosawa's non-Samurai films, perhaps this would be a nice companion piece to go with High & Low? But is it a style over substance type of a film? Not that it's always a bad thing.)
Branded to Kill (Some people rave about the film and some hate it. If I love High & Low, will this most likely be a hit or miss with me?)
Vanya on 42nd Street (The only film of his I've seen is Elevator to the Gallows which I liked a lot. I've seen bits of the film on YouTube and it seems to be one of those nice little flicks best seen very late at night.)
La Promesse (Review sounds good, but how depressing is this actually? I try to avoid overly depressing films at the moment.)
Il Sorpasso (Haven't heard nothing but good.)
The Secret of the Grain (Same here)
Vanishing (I know I would enjoy this but does it have much of a replay value once you know the killer/ending? Secretsquirrel mentioned Tell No One which is one of my favorite French films.)

Then there's Diabolique, Charade and Cul-De-Sac, all of which I've seen and love.

Decisions, decisions...

Pale Flower not style over substance at all. I, personally, think it is much better film than High and Low

Branded to Kill I don't know that anyone has said that they hate it. only seen Tokyo Drifter and thought it was pretty fun.

Vanya on 42nd Street
haven't seen it, but would recommend Au Revoir Les Enfants if you'd like to see more Malle. it is arguably his best film.

La Promesse can't help here... I'd like to see it myself some time but I haven't yet.

Il Sorpasso I wasn't feelin' it at all. Turned it off 30 minutes in. so, there is one dissenting opinion.

The Secret of the Grain can't help here... I'd like to see it myself some time but I haven't yet.

Vanishing I think that it has reasonable replay value - even more so than a film that I was touting last week as a "classic," that being Rear Window. the film is executed rather artfully and it all unfolds in a rather unique way.

Precisely!

My artificial turf is not nearly as famous as perhaps the turf from the old Astrodome or Kingdome or Metrodome but lets put it this way, you won't have any worries of finding residue of human saliva or spit deep down in the fibers of my carpeting. I'll make sure to wash and clean a portion of my carpet too prior to framing.

In the meantime, I still need to send you my spreadsheet for my movie collection. I will PM you for your email address. Thanks.

Fantastic! What part of India? I would love to see Northern India and check out the Buddhist monasteries up north around Rishikesh and do some meditation and find serious enlightenment and eat Navratna Korma daily.

My longest plane ride was 12 hours to Tel Aviv though.

enjoy your trip!

Regarding what I have and have\seen:

Branded to Kill - Nothing at all like High and Low. I LOVE High and Low (my favorite Kurasow by a country mile and yes, I like it that much more then the great Seven Samurai). It is quirky, stylistic, different. Others can add more. Definately a rental and not a great Blind Buy in my opinion.

La Promesse - The Dardennes brothers in my opiion do not get enough love not only here but anywhere. And while Rosetta gets the more critical acclaim (at least of the CC released films of theirs) I think La Promesse is the better film. The Kid With a Bike is also very good. Anyway, I think both hold up well to multiple viewings and if you like one, chances are you will like others of theirs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The Vanishing - I have seen it once and it is on my must buy list for this sale (hope to snag it tomorrow when I am in Maine). The ending gets a lot of play and as it should but really, the whole film is very great from many perspectives.
