I lived in Alabama for years along with having family roots in the state that go back generations as I also do in NY.

Take a guess which state I prefer on every measurable criteria available...

Here's what I think coming from the South...

... if John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Ed Gein, Andrei Chikatilo, etc. were able to exist in the modern world then I can see no reason why the people portrayed in "Deliverance" can't exist. Agreed? They wouldn't be all inbred and disfigured like portrayed in the "Wrong Turn" movies, but I'm sure they're out there just waiting for our cars to break down in their towns.

Also, I fondly remember spending the summer before my Freshman year of high school in Alabama with my grandparents and my brother, who is 4 years older. They live in a town called Rainsville, AL on Sand Mountain and supposedly the whole area is none-to-friendly to black people and the such. Anyway, my fond memory of that summer involves my brother driving me around on the many dirt back roads and coming upon a church that had a noose hanging from a tree. It was the first time I'd actually ever seen that kind of thing in-person and, even for me, it was quite freaky.

Like Jane's Addiction said... "Idiots rule!"

Of course they will put them down as evil, so the poor side of this country don't see the truth. So they put fear in us, which we follow what the rich and powerful says, so they don't lose the money and power.
Actually, historically commies are evil. They squashed the Spanish Anarchist movement during the Spanish civil war by refusing to send military supplies, personal and food to the rebels fighting Franco because if they won and had fair elections the anarchists would have outnumbered the communists (under the umbrella of Socialism Anarchism represents the extreme left and
communism the extreme right).

There are a few great books on the Spanish civil war and the role anarchists played that most US history books ignore.

George Orwell wrote about the anarchist sections of the uprising in grave detail in his book "Homage to Catalonia". He volunteered to fight along side the rebels and ended up losing a lot of respect for how the communist sector both in Spain and in the mother country let the uprising get crushed for the above reasons.

Also, before anyone spouts off about anarchism please make sure you know what you are talking about. Its a legit political/social philosophy and as close to true democracy as you can get.

OFF TOPIC FTW!

No kidding. I was lucky enough to be a part of that whole crowd before the word "goth" came back around into the public eye. In my high school, we were just called "freaks." And, of course, we had to be androgynous to keep everyone guessing.

CG, are you a fan of, or have you seen, John Cameron Mitchell's "Hedwig and the Angry Inch"? I've been a big fan of it since its DVD release, but I would've loved to seen some of the original live showings in the New York drag clubs.

Oh and Chad, buddy, just to prove more that I'm not some elitist and never been to film school, Louisville (or Kentucky for that matter) doesn't even have film schools. So I learned everything I know by myself. That's why I don't like film school's buddy Wes Anderson and like b-movies.

Exactly.

And Louisville may as well be a northern city. Its produced some of the most memorable indie bands I can think of over the past twenty years...(endpoint, Guilt, Metroschifter, June of 44, Slint, Rodan, yadda yadda).

No I haven't but it sounds f'n awesome when I looked it up. People think when you watch stuff like this or Paul Morrissey's Trash, Flesh, Heat, or Women in Revolt you might be gay or something. Society is stupid. It's just that we know the real world and this exist out there. And for the record, I love the ladies.

Also that band Flaw, but I don't listen to them so can't tell you much. I thought they broke up and got back together.

I like CG's debates because he never resorts to hyperbole or straw men.

What?

However, if you haven't seen it, I would strongly, strongly recommend Hedwig and the Angry Inch. It is one of those movies I've seen more than 5 times and it just seems to get better and better. In fact, I watched it again just a couple days ago.

It is on my super short list of movies for BD release, that is for sure.

It is a pity how much I loathed JCM's follow up film, Shortbus though. Does anyone know if he is working on something new? Hedwig is too good a first feature to be a fluke.

Thank you sir. I try not to bash other people's opinions, I just like to say what my opinions are, alot.

So got 2 people who likes this film. Have to try to get it soon. I saw he is working on something called Rabbit Hole with Nicole "what happened, she use to be so hot" Kidman.

Have you ever watched the documentary on the DVD? It's just as long, if not longer, than the actual film and I'm sure I've seen it as many times as the main film. I think it's a superbly made and exhaustive documentary that really provides the viewer insight into how everything came to be. I went out and bought the soundtrack the day after I saw the movie, too. For me, the film is such a great packaging of material.

Any blu-ray release, I'm sure, would have no thought or care put into it. It was a New Line Cinema/Fine Line Features release, which is owned by Warner Brothers now so I don't expect too much if it ever happens.

nice cover. Why hasn't Criterion put a naked chick on a cover (shut up Salo fans.)? With this question, it's the first Criterion related thing for 4-5 pages. lol.

I'm glad we can keep off-topic things in this thread, because we are more of a cult and not the everyday person comes in here anyways. If so, it would be weird to come in this thread for the first time looking at drags and commies.

When his father tells him over the phone how many people in the room are proud of his son and that he is one of them, I cry like a child. It really is a one of the best dvd extras I've ever encountered.
