Haha this made me chuckle.

On a different subject, I was pleasantly surprised to find Vintage Stock/Movie Trading Company are about $10 cheaper per Criterion title compared to Barnes and Noble. I picked up 'The Great Dictator' for a Super Nintendo and $2 lol.

It might be my favorite Sturges for that reason. Love the ending.

Had what I considered a dumb thought, only to confirm that I was on to something… The River is in English and not in French. Also very cool that it was shot on location in India. Black Narcissus, while a wonderful movie, was not. Just read in Pro-B’s review of the French release that Renoir spoke with Satyajit Ray about shooting locations in Calcutta and worked with who would later become Ray’s cinematographer. Very much looking forward to this one on blu!

Michael Powell was adamant about not shooting Black Narcissus on location. He feared a film composed of on-location and studio sequences would not have the same consistent look to them. The fim's art direction and set design is beyond praise. They don't make 'em like that any more.

I think you'll love The River. It's a beautiful film.

Just watched Sword of Doom and all I can say is WOW! Ill admit I love samurai films but this was just beautiful. Without giving spoilers the snow fight and the final twenty minutes will be with me for quite awhile. Should be required viewing.

Oh man...

I just paid more than most sane people would for a "Used - Very Good" copy of the Criterion Blu-ray of The Man Who Fell to Earth.

I've been rediscovering my collection of David Bowie CDs, and I recently purchased his new three-disc anthology, Nothing Has Changed. The new anthology is pretty sharp, because the songs are in reverse chronological order, and, as such, it presents a surprisingly fresh way to look at his career output.

I've seen the Criterion DVD of this Nicholas Roeg movie, and I liked it quite a bit, but found the upgrade costs too much for the Blu-ray, since I started collecting the new format after it had already gone out of print.

$80 after all of the associated costs. That's the most that I've ever spent on a single movie (five dollars more than I spent on the Criterion Blu-ray of The Third Man). The third-party seller has perfect sale ratings across the board, though, so that's cool, and I know that I'll be satisfied.

Enjoy ! Makes a nice double feature with Under The Skin :P

Its always nice having a big treat though, and some may seem its silly paying that much for a film - but if you are passionate then why not!

I managed to get another copy of Last Year at Marianbad + Plastic case for £40

Nothing yet sadly - I am really eager to get this release, I am glad I gave in and bought the current release though, was like £10 for the bluray so cant complain. I hope the new release is the rumoured extended cut though, that was my main fault with the film.

Congrats on your purchase, Owl! Did you get the original digipak, or the replacement case version? I myself bought it used on ebay after it had gone OOP - the seller in my case had both the digipak and the replacement case with artwork included in the auction.

I managed to find a copy of the plastic case so I have both now it's nice having them both

Im not keen on the style of digipak though, same for LYAM (just the slip in sleeve style) - but it does look nice though!

Just the digipak, to the best of my knowledge. I'll probably do the same thing that I did for The Third Man, and keep the disc and booklet housed in an empty plastic Criterion case while the actual digipak is kept in a safe place.

Thats what I have done The digipak is so nice though, but i was so scared i'd drop it or damage it, Plus i keep it separate from my other digipaks so it doesn't get worn pulling it off shelf (same for LYAM).
