I heartily recommend The Cowboys (on Blu-ray from Warner, at least in the US). The Reivers and Cinderella Liberty, as well, but not quite as heartily as The Cowboys.

Actually, I suspect that they'll (eventually) release all of the Chaplins controlled by MK2, which would also include the features A King in New York and A Woman of Paris. The only feature of his I wouldn't expect to come out from Criterion would be his final one, A Countess from Hong Kong (though being a Universal film, it might not be completely out of the question).
Also don't forget that according to Hulu plus, they also have all the First National shorts, so i am guessing they will be releasing those together sometime.

So i think we could still be waiting for 3-5 releases depending if they decide to mix films or shorts in the same release.

Yes, I think it will. Costa-Gavras' company has created new 4K masters of the following films: Z, State of Siege, The Confession and Hanna K. I'd guess that Z and Hanna K will be released in either 2016 or 2017.

BohemianGraham already addressed this, but here are a few selections of wonderfully immature reactions from this month:

"Another Bunch of Boring Blu rays I would not want for Free"

"Wake up Criterion!"

"How far up Criterion's a$$ is this forum?"

"Well, again a deception."

and like Brad1963 said, these folks might want to look into following another distributor because CC's releases this month are par for the course.

definitely annoying... and taking a jab at David Lynch like SpiderBaby did (and he was man (or woman) enough to admit as much) is not exactly akin to reacting as though someone killed someone's puppy.

Thrilled with the announcement of "Limelight"...

Heart broken that it feels like they will never release a Blu-Ray of "Ikiru".

I just received the news that Don't Look Now and A Day in the Country have finally been delivered to my doorstep. I'm really looking forward to immersing myself in the Roeg film again this weekend, because it's one of the true highlights of 1970s cinema and of horror cinema in general.

I'll admit I'm not witty enough to understand what "it has all the potency of a bottle of O'Doul's" means but I said your post was dumb because nowhere in this thread's reactions to yesterday's announcements did I see anyone say "criterion has been failing because they haven't released the most mainstream of all possible titles" or "I guess that means that those are complaining feels that they have seen every good movie that has ever been made". Total strawman arguments. If you can't engage with what people here have actually written, then maybe you shouldn't engage with them at all.

if you can point out where I engaged you in a discussion, then I'd say this conversation is worth continuing.

I know some of the stuff you like (Asian cinema, Kore-eda, Hitchcock). I know a lot of the stuff Aaron likes (Godard, French New Wave, etc.) A lot of good stuff. Please guys, don't get so defensive. What do they say, "if the shoe fits, wear it." if not, then idk... return it to Payless or something.

I will probably explore these films down the line - Majority of my purchases from Criterion have been blind buys and tbh, I have discovered some INCREDIBLE cinema doing this.

i find researching too much puts me off watching it, so just buying it and enjoying is best for me!

The only titles I have dismissed so far are Chaplin and Western titles. However I am looking into exploring these in future, they just never have appealed to me. Same for Samurai films but Zatoichi and many others have made me love the genre.

I guess it just easy to dismiss films you don't know and get annoyed they won't release stuff personal to you.

Had I not blind bought i'd have missed titles like Marketa Lazarova, The Double Life of Veronique etc etc

With Criterion announcements, there is so much hype I guess its just easy to be disappointed and dismissive.... Oh well!

I missed this second part of the post.. I agree with ccfixx 1000%. If there was a carefully restored transfer, then DVD is still really good. I don't know how it looks on ginormous televisions, but on your typical 40" to 50" sets, there is not that much difference.

people can post all the faces they want... pop in your Jules and Jim dual format discs or your Foreign Correspondent DVDs... is blu-ray better? sure, it is. but DVD is still really good.

the only thing that really doesn't work for me is the samurai film genre.

I can understand how the Western genre may not work for a non-U.S. resident.

Both of those genres don't usually work for me, and they are similar in several ways. That's one of the reasons why I prefer High and Low to any samurai film by Kurosawa that I've seen so far, which - gasp - includes Seven Samurai.

While DVD might not be bad in itself, blu ray is miles better, specially if you have a large screen where DVD might be unacceptable, so there is no point in purchasing a movie in DVD unless you don't care about money and don't mind double dipping sometime in the future.

Hey, non-US resident here and there's at least a handful of westerns I like or even love. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West are masterpieces.

Yes, I know you said "may not work", not that they definitely won't.

I'm glad someone missed me, haha. I'm not as much of a Criterion acolyte as this thread's regulars are and I've been focusing on a lot of movies not released by them (not intentionally, of course) these past several months. I'll try to make an effort to post a little more here.

I recently saw Y Tu Mama Tambien on Blu-ray for the first time, and it looked great. Watched all the special features, too. I'd seen it a few times before way back when the (uncut) DVD was first released but a friend of mine was kissing that movie's ass in a recent e-mail so I decided I'd check it out again. I'm surprised I remembered a lot. Still a really good movie, too.

I also saw Mystery Train for the first time and it exceeded my expectations. I loved it so much that I bought the Blu-ray, which coincidentally arrived in the mail today. Another title I checked out all the special features for. I think it's only the second Jarmusch film I've seen, after Broken Flowers (again, a film I saw a long time ago, when it first hit DVD). Mystery Train - which Wikipedia lists as a cult film - is right up my alley and it thankfully isn't dated. Jarmusch made the right choice in not succumbing to the typical 80s trappings, which I appreciated, seeing as how I generally hate the 80s.

I did love that famous scene in TGTB&TU

There was a western I was recommended on here but forgot the name haha, been holding off cause it seemed really expensive everywhere I looked...

Also I watched SAFE last night (a lovely 240p transfer I found... (wasn't even on netflix!)) - will definitely be buying on Criterion asap!

Y Tu Mama is one of my fav films of all-time. haven't picked up the blu yet, so you reminded me to add that to my list for the flash sale.

Mystery Train is a lot of fun, too. Haven't seen it in a while. I have the DVD at home... a rewatch could be in my future.

I forgot that you hate the 80's. yeah, for film, I do, too. although a lot of the foreign stuff that I am just now discovering has started to change that... a bit, anyway.
