The color timing on the Studio Canal Collection blu-ray is allegedly closer to Melville's vision. J-P Melville liked the blue tint. |

And, once again, Criterion's The Leopard is in the correct aspect ratio. It was shot Super Technirama 70 which gives a negative ratio of 2.55:1 with projection ratios of 2.20:1 for 70 mm and 2.35:1 for 35 mm. |

I would definitely recommend you watch them on Netflix/ huluplus. I know they get a lot of praise around here, but I thought close-up was one of the worst criterion releases I have ever watched and certified copy I thought I was really good, but it is definitely a very cerebral film that I could see someone either loving or hating. I still have like someone in love in my queue but have prioritized other films due to the rave around close-up and my dislike of it

Ah, yes it is (just Wes Anderson, that is). I guess when I see Amazon drop their prices, I automatically figure it's because somebody else dropped their prices first (or soon will).

I was thinking about blind buying it but read in one of the essays on Criterion.com that there's some animal cruelty so that immediately destroyed my interest. Just a heads up if you care about that sort of thing.

Watership Down is an excellent release. The film looks and sounds terrific. The interview with Rosen is very good. del Toro's interview is terrific. It's equally informative and passionate. The man really knows his film history. I still need to view the storyboards.

The Thin Blue Line (which I suppose technically doesn't count because the Criterion release won't be out for another month) and Y Tu Mamá También. |
