I was wondering:
Those of you who love The Black Stallion (i've never seen it), how come you didn't buy the original US release but you decided to buy it now?

Hiroshima mon amour and moonrise kingdom are very good announcements.
The rest are easy passes (never seen stallion but if supplements are very very extensive I may be interested)

Not sure. I never came across it at my local Best Buy or Target so it kind of faded from memory. I will definitely get this edition and "Moonrise Kingdom".

The Killers and Hiroshima, mon amour are definites. They might not make the July sale cut (that list is getting pretty long) but it's only a matter of time.

I have no idea what an epic bildungsroman is but I probably need one so Here is Your Life...welcome to solid maybe list. And make room for My Beautiful Launderette.

No real interest yet in The Black Stallion and Moonrise Kingdom [note to Snicket: there's a lot of sodium in tears and hypertension isn't just for middle-aged men anymore] is a pretty definite no.

A very solid month overall.

Exactly. Criterion seem more intent on releasing all of Anderson's films on Blu Ray (even when there are already Blu Ray versions out in the US). Meanwhile we wait for more Kieślowski, Satyajit Ray, Yang, Naruse, Altman, Mizoguchi, Bresson, Tarkovsky, Ford, etc

I can forsee Grand Budapest Hotel being announced next month, taking yet another spot away from a film that needs a release.

I almost bought it (I've never seen it either), but it's a bare bones disc and I figured it would go cheaper eventually. This is an unexpected surprise.

I can understand your sentiment, but I for one am very excited about Moonrise Kingdom getting a (granted, inevitable) Criterion release.

I don't foresee Budapest getting one this year, but the current Blu-Ray did go cheap ($6 or so) very quickly.

July is shaping up to be one of the best months for Criterions ever: Moonrise, Stallion, and My Beautiful Laundrette all immediately excited me, and the rest of the July lineup looks great too.

I've not seen it either, nor was I aware of the fact that it had been released before now. I'm a big fan of Coppola, so only knew of it thru his involvement.

I'm sure that the sales of the Anderson films help them acquire and release films from the directors you mentioned that most likely do not sell as briskly.

Criterion apparently disagrees with you, and their vote has more value than yours (or mine, as I'm not fond of Anderson either).

So, there go our hopes for Tree of Life, although it was evident from the drawing after some thinking, that it wasn't it.

Yawn. Well, at least I didn't import The Killers yet. Already knew Hiroshima was coming and sold off my DVD a month or 2 ago. The rest are a pass, although the Troell might be good.

Agreed. However, it's the newer more "popular" titles that sell well and keep Criterion able to release the more obscure titles that might not be as mainstream. At least that's all of his films, right, or is there still that Budapest one?

Don't forget about David Lynch and Charlie Chaplin.

I would be ok with this if they released the animated version of the film as a supplement.

It was just released last year, and there were immediately complaints about a defective printing. Then it got some bad reviews in terms of PQ and AQ, and I decided to wait and see if it would be remastered and reissued.

Criterion's offering us a new 4K digital transfer, and a wealth of bonus features, including five short films by the director. I'm glad I waited!

A solid month, I certainly can't complain with the Troell. I'll be getting Hiroshima mon amour, Moonrise Kingdom and Here is Your Life.

Umm. Some people really want the Wes Anderson films.

If this thread is nothing but complaining I will be staying away from it.

All of these are interesting releases for one reason or another. The two I'm most excited about are the Troell and the upgrade of The Killers.
